The Tom’s of Maine Plant Chemist will be responsible for performing physical and chemical testing in support of the Sanford site’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program.
Working hours for this position are 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. As our lab operates 16 hours/day, there will be occasions where coverage for 2nd shift may be necessary.
Responsibilities Include:

Perform physical and chemical testing of raw material, packaging material, in-process and finished product in accordance with standard procedures. Approve materials and products based on test results.

Collect and analyze test data to identify root cause, draw conclusions and recommend actions

Participate in failure investigations to identify root cause and recommend corrective and preventive actions

Acquire basic knowledge of plant floor operations and equipment

Apply appropriate methodologies and data interpretation techniques to assist in overcoming technical difficulties and promote continuous improvement.

Maintain the laboratory quality assurance systems to assure validity of data

Conducts lab verification of instruments

Maintain accurate, up to date and concise laboratory (physical and electronic) notebooks and records.

Use laboratory safety equipment and understand precautions in handling reagents and disposal of chemical waste according to local environmental regulations.

Troubleshoot basic instrument problems.

Develop knowledge of how to operate analytical instruments and other standard laboratory equipment relevant to job responsibilities.

Understand and precisely follow written lab procedures, global methods, local methods and published standard or compendia sources.

Develop and maintain awareness of regulatory and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements relevant to job responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Biochemistry, or other scientific discipline

A minimum of 1 year experience in an Analytical lab, preferably within the CPG, pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic or food industries

Experienced in use of digital systems for lab management (i.e. LIMS) and proficient use of google platforms, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

Experience in manufacturing environment, with strong multitasking skills in a fast paced, changing environment

Demonstrated competency in laboratory skills training in chemistry
-
Experience in data analytics.

Experience with any/all of the following: HPLC, GC, NMR, FTIR, ISE, HPIC
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $62,000.00 - $77,500.00 USD
Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
