We are seeking driven candidates to join Tom's of Maine as a Material Handler responsible for activities that support the movement and control of materials in the facility. Coordinates daily activities in materials movement or handling, receiving, loading, unloading, transporting, stacking, order filling, shipping, and maintaining stock in a storeroom or warehouse. Reviews shipping or receiving orders and requests for movement of materials and products.  Opportunities on 1st and 2nd Shift.

 

This role works together with a team to achieve business objectives of safety, quality, productivity, customer service, cost, and environmental protection. The material handler works within a structure that requires strong partnership with support functions and with other team members to manage workflow.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Safety - Ensure all EOHS requirements (Environmental Occupational Health and Safety) are met while handling materials and operating equipment.  

  • Quality -  Ensure all quality systems such as Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs) are followed during all material movements and housekeeping  processes.

  • Productivity – Work with the material handlers team to ensure all material movements and SAP transactions are complete to meet production and shipping needs.

  • Leadership – Promote teamwork to achieve all goals for the warehouse and the facility.  Take initiative to identify issues and offer continuous improvement actions in safety, quality, and productivity.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • As a team, the material handlers are responsible for material movement activities such as receiving, sampling, staging for production, put away, shipping, inventory control, housekeeping, warehousing maintenance, recycling/waste transport, problem solving, and continuous improvement. 

  • EOHS responsibilities include understanding and adherence to all facility requirements such as Minimum Safe Behaviors (MSBs),  proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with all storage and disposal requirements.

  • Equipment responsibilities include safe operation, maintenance, and site training for all powered lifts.  Also responsible for racking, docks, stretch wrapping, sampling, and labeling systems.

  • Quality responsibilities include receiving inspections, sampling, daily housekeeping, and cGMP/Micro compliance for all material storage.

  • Inventory control responsibilities include accurate physical and SAP/Warehouse Management System (WMS) tracking of every material quantity and movement.  

  • SAP/WMS responsibilities include receiving, shipping, staging, scanner use, bin control, confirmations, inventory reporting/adjustments, and troubleshooting.

  • Warehouse responsibilities include all housekeeping protocols/audits, management of storage areas, visual workplace (VWP) continuous improvement, and driver hosting.

  • Support production lines as needed.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES: 

 

  • Attention to detail with the ability to follow all procedures, and neatly document tasks with precision.

  • Accuracy to maintain inventories of each material with batch control using math skills.

  • Mechanical skills to set up, operate, and clean equipment with a focus on safety.

  • Computer skills to operate controls (such as scale interface, handheld scanner, SAP computer transactions, computer email) with skill as trained.

  • Communication skills with ability to understand and assess team production performance via visual, written, and verbal communications.

  • Problem solving skills to apply data-driven continuous improvement tools such as Root Cause Analysis to resolve issues and improve results.

  • Leadership to take initiative for continuous improvement, delegate and instruct tasks to team members, and model Company’s Values and Managing With Respect principles.

  • Teamwork to work closely with others to achieve shared goals.

 

 

EDUCATION: 

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Vocational or Technical degree preferred 

 

 

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Minimum of 4 years  experience in warehouse or manufacturing environment, including experience with safety and quality systems required

  • Demonstrated experience safely operating a forktruck

  • Demonstrated experience implementing 5S /Lean practices

  • Demonstrated computer skills to use SAP/WMS System for transactions and troubleshooting

  • Skill at adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing with consistent accuracy

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds repeatedly with or without accommodation

  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods in a fast-paced environment with or without accommodation

  • Ability to meet shift requirements with excellent attendance

  • Ability to work mandatory overtime including weekend work when needed

  • Teamwork and strong interpersonal skills.

 

 

Incentives:

Base Pay: $20.90/hour

 

Shift-Differential: 

  • 2nd Shift : $1,50/hour

 

Sign-On bonus / Internal Referral Program

  • After 90 days,  $500 Dollars;

  • After 180 days, $500 Dollars;

 

Relocation Allowance

  •  If you need to relocate to Southern Maine You will receive a sign-on bonus of $5,000 within your first month of employment. This sign-on bonus is subject to applicable taxes. 

* Should you voluntarily terminate employment with Colgate-Palmolive prior to the one-year anniversary of your employment, you will be required to reimburse the $5,000 sign-on bonus no more than 30 days after termination.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $ - $ USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.
