The Pre-Conversion Area Leader is responsible for leading all functions related to conversion production and maintenance activities within the Richmond plant and developing cross-functional partnerships to improve the plant’s safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.  The Area Leader will be accountable for maintaining effective KPIs, driving FP&R standards, and leading processing improvements in the areas of reliability, waste, product quality, safety, and cost per pound. 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the continuous improvement systems as established by FP&R guidelines and standards by conducting regular data driven CI reviews, coordinating cross-functional evaluations of CI projects through ROI, Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and handle CI project timelines to achieve optimization initiatives.
  • Work as part of the Autonomous Maintenance Steering Team to develop and implement the guidelines and standards of a technician driven AM program.
  • Establish and maintain effective Key Performance Indicator (KPI) measurements for the plant, tracking and reporting tools, and establish corrective action for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the maintenance functions in the conversion areas of the facility to optimally schedule and execute maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance (PM) plans as well as autonomous maintenance (AM) activities while leveraging the SAP PM System and work order process.  
  • Own the development of process improvements and optimization (throughput, yield, quality, and cost). 
  • Assist in achievement of plant KPI’s by working with Team Leaders to translate business needs into daily operations and creation of technical solutions. 
  • Establish, maintain, audit and analyze the OPERA data structure.
  • Empower teams by way of training, information sharing, coaching, feedback, appraisals and delegation, to ensure the development of people, skills, teams and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Support plant and Quality Assurance in identifying quality defects and driving resolution internally and with suppliers to improve material quality.
  • Implement specific product, material, process and package standardization and simplification margin improvement projects and integrate external continuous improvement best practices.
  • Lead maintenance expenditure budgets and delivering continuous improvement projects that reduce manufacturing variances.
  • Support implementation of Quality Assurance and Food Safety initiatives. Ensure personnel adhere to Hill’s policies, safety standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices, including Quality Assurance and Food Safety

Education/ Experience Requirements:

Basic qualifications include:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Mechanical Engineering, Food Science, Chemical, Industrial, Supply Chain Management or related field
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience of production and process equipment, preferably in a processing industry such as food, chemicals or pharmaceuticals
  • 2+ years of experience in Plant Wide Systems working with FP&R Guidelines, Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement Plans and establishing Key Performance Indicators
  • Be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. 

Preferred qualifications include: 

  • Operations Team Leader experience
  • Food Related Production Experience
  • Lean Six Sigma certified
  • Technical proficiency including:
  • Experience using ROI, Continuous Improvement Tools or FMEA tools
  • Training others in conflict resolution 
  • Presentation skills 
  • Understanding of financial measures 
  • SAP system
  • Standards, weights and measure requirements
  • AIB, FDA, USDA and other regulatory agency design requirements
  • Proficient in Statistical Process Control, CPk and Continuous Improvement Methodologies

 


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $91,200.00 - $128,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually
  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
