Summary of responsibilities:

The Packaging Validation Engineer is primarily responsible for creation, modification, and global roll out of packaging protocols and testing methods.  Additionally, this role will drive quality and safety changes with respect to packaging within the organization.  This position will also have a responsibility for managing the day to day operations of the Global Packaging Lab and driving for lab improvements. 

 

Responsibilities include:  

  • Global ownership of our packaging development protocols, standards, and qualification/test methods. This includes establishing centralized coordination, guidance and rigor while also actively evolving our methods & standards to be more efficient, effective, and predictive.

  • Direct Management of the Piscataway Global Packaging lab and indirect leadership of our worldwide network of internal and external packaging development labs.

  • Leader of packaging programs related to Quality & Product Safety, including management of our Packaging Materials of Concern and Tech Transfer programs.

 

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Create and update package test methods where needed to comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and/or procedural improvements. 

  • Propose changes to packaging test methods that align with Quality requirements and user needs.  

  • Coordinate training and roll out of updated test methods to Colgate packaging labs in other countries.  

  • Ensure lab operations and technicians are in compliance with established procedures.

  • Efficiently deliver package testing requests.

  • Partner with Quality and Safety teams to ensure proper safety requirements are being met, precautions in handling reagents, and disposal of packaging and other chemical waste according to local environmental regulations.

  • Maintain good laboratory practices including lab environment and documentation requirements 

  • Maintain accurate, up to date and concise digital laboratory notebooks and records. Follow the laboratory data integrity compliance requirement.

  • Troubleshoot basic instrument problems with support from technicians, vendors and facilities team. 

  • Perform or assist the vendor during the installation qualification (IQ), operation qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ) for new packaging equipment.  

  • Participate in internal audits. Conduct and report internal verification of all the laboratory testing units, based on the laboratory testing standard and other quality-related operating standards. 

  • Manage capital expenditure budget for Package testing needs.

  • Initiate and manage change controls for new equipment acquisitions.  

  • Develop,  monitor and train the staff in the Packaging laboratory.

  • Provide support for implementation of new laboratory management system in Piscataway Packaging lab.

  • Manage roadmap / long term strategy for lab operations.

  • Partner with Quality to lead improvements for Tech Transfer ; provide support to the global packaging community.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor´s Degree in Packaging, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years experience in Packaging Engineering.

  • 2 years experience in Packaging, with a focus on package development.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience of packaging experience in a CPG, cosmetics or pharmaceutical company.
  • Experience in developing packaging using a wide variety of materials and technologies: films and laminates, rigid containers, dispensing systems, printing, cartons, and corrugate systems. 

 


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $107,000.00 - $150,000.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
