Are you ready to influence and innovate at the intersection of science and pet care? As a Senior Scientist in Product Design, you will join our mission-driven team in Topeka, KS, dedicated to enhancing the bond between pets and pet parents through groundbreaking advancements in pet food technology. You will design and execute studies that dive deep into pet preferences, driving forward our global growth and brand excellence. Reporting to the head of Product Design, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our premium products consistently exceed expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement solutions that meet specified taste performance, nutrient delivery, and product design requirements.
- Lead the formulation of experimental variables, manage pilot scale production, and determine the necessary testing across multiple projects.
- Validate product performance through the coordination and interpretation of product evaluations, including analytical, palatability, sensory, and stability testing.
- Spearhead key research initiatives focused on understanding pet preferences and developing technologies to enhance product performance throughout their shelf life.
- Collaborate with product development, quality, supply chain, and ingredient procurement teams to ensure project success and innovation excellence.
Required Qualifications:
- MS in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food Engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of 5-6 years of experience in the animal or food industry.
- Mastery of food product performance research and food science principles.
- Strong understanding of the formula development process.
- Proven ability to design and execute scientific experiments with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food Engineering, or related field.
- Expertise in product stability with experience in studying lipid oxidation in food products or specific experience in pet food.
- Excellent leadership and collaboration skills to foster teamwork in a cross-functional environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills to drive innovation and maintain flexibility/adaptability in dynamic settings.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $106,000 - $126,000 USD
Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
