The Experience:

In today’s rapidly evolving retail environment, Category Management has quickly become a top growth priority and at Colgate Palmolive, we are excited by the challenges this dynamic space brings. Our dedicated Catman team is full of passionate individuals and we are seeking a leader with the same energy, diligence and positivity who can help us lead change for our business. We are looking for an inspirational leader and builder who can build the strategy for and deliver results against Colgate’s goals. As the Senior Director Catman Strategy, you will play a critical role in driving the Colgate North America Category Management strategy. Our ideal candidate is an experienced and versatile business leader who has a proven track record of high performance, thinks big, and operates at depth. In addition, this leader has experience managing diverse ecommerce categories and teams in a highly dynamic business environment. With a deep understanding and knowledge of the NA retail environment and brand strategy, you will serve as primary lead for the development of best of class account category plans, best practice applications and tools. The Senior Director is responsible for elevating our overall category expertise to unlock category growth and solutions across all channels and categories.

 

Provide Strategic Direction 

  • Lead the strategic and tactical development of leading edge, best-in-class Category Management processes for the company. Application by class of trade and facilitated intra company knowledge and expertise around category management principles and strategic vision

  • Produces thought leadership used in VP level customer meetings, Top to Top, JBP meetings and Company’s events

Problem Solving and Analytics

  • Develop holistic category strategies by leveraging the tools, insights, and analytics from internal, industry, and retailer-specific sources

  • Retrieve and interpret customer, category and shopper data from multiple sources to develop compelling and executable insights to drive distribution, shelving, and merchandising strategies

  • Leverage enterprise-wide problem-solving tools, task management and stakeholders to address business problems

Selling Expertise 

  • Provide selling teams with support and guidance by leveraging national category management strategies

  • Assist with the execution of selling strategies by providing category or customer-specific insights and recommendations

  • Support development of joint business plans with customers by defining opportunities, providing key information, and preparing presentation materials

Lead and accountable for the success of the Category Management (Catman) Organization

  • Develop a high performing team

  • Provide executive support for Catman to increase likelihood of success 

  • Ensure that the best information, tools and resources are available to the sales organization (across disciples key account management, category, etc.)

  • Ensure that retail group effectively delivers on 5P execution

  • Develop the Category Vision strategies for Oral Care, Personal Care and Home Care working together with the General Manager for these categories

  • Partners with Director of Retail Marketing & Catman  on required tools, capabilities, and training for Category Leadership function

  • Lead Strategic Projects and engage across businesses

  • Build a transversal perspective (cross-category, cross-channel) and build connections across the business providing support to all the Retail Environments in the organization (US & Canada Sales Organizations, Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals)

  • Lead strategic projects and ensure that results are carried through the go-to-market organization

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree  

  • At least 10 years' expertise in leading a category management organization

  • Deep understanding of key Catman methodologies and approaches and a clear understanding of the capabilities and limitations of various techniques

  • Experience leading a team or mentoring others in category management

  • Experience working with customer Shopper Behavior Data (Luminate, Dunhumby, ExtraCare, 1010, etc.)   

  • Experience working with Household Panel data (Numerator, Nielsen Panel, etc.)  

  • Experience working with a syndicated service (Nielsen, IRI) account   

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Office or Google Suite proficiency (i.e, Sheets, Slides, Docs)  

  • 25% travel

  • Please note the role is hybrid which entail being in office on Colgate-Palmolive's core days of Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $220,000.00 - $250,000.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
