Job Summary


Hill’s Pet Nutrition Center, Topeka, KS is seeking a motivated and creative postdoctoral research scientist with a strong background in molecular biology, genomics or systems biology to join a focused research program that aims at developing and applying bioinformatics and statistical algorithms to the integrative analysis of multi-omics data and clinical data from companion animal studies.  The position will focus on analysis of large biomedical datasets to solve problems in pet health and wellness. This is a full time position for duration of 2 years.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Performing statistical data analysis linking complex hierarchical datasets from companion animal studies (e.g. biochemical, genomic, metabolomic data) with clinical outcomes.
  • Interpret, summarize and report data in form of final reports, technical summaries, and scientific publications.
  • Partner with collaborate with biologists, nutritionists, veterinarians and internal subject matter experts to develop and refine statistical analysis strategies to facilitate delivery of new technology and claims.
  • Analyze, and prepare summaries of data from internal and outside research studies and make presentations to management and cross-functional Hill's groups especially Early Research, Clinical Studies, and business units. 
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects, time-lines and be accountable for deliverables.   
  • Cultivate relationships with researchers and clinicians outside of Hill’s to provide expertise, ideas and technologies that fill gaps.  


Education/ Experience Requirements


Basic qualifications include: 


  • A completed PhD in biological sciences including computational biology, bioinformatics, epidemiology, computer science, statistics, statistical genomics or related fields with experience in relevant computational approaches. 
  • Proficiency in R, SAS, C++, PERL, Python, Java or similar commonly used statistical or scripting languages.
  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship


Preferred qualifications include:


  • An established track record (as evidenced by publications in peer-viewed journals) for generating actionable insights from complex data in a relevant field

Expected Areas of Skills


  • Demonstrated expertise in multivariate, Bayesian and/or integrative analysis in biological domain.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake analysis of large datasets including managing, preparing, and reporting the data with attention to detail.
  • Exhibited knowledge of statistics and probability important to bioinformatics research.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate insights from complex, hierarchical datasets, or metabolic pathway analysis.
