Position Purpose:

To record and monitor plant financial transactions; to provide decision support for plant and operational needs; and to provide systems and procedures that results in continuous improvement, adds to decision support and safeguards company assets.


Let's talk about responsibilities:

  • Monitors cost reporting.
  • Ensures the General Ledger is closed monthly.
  • Responsible for processing of vendor invoices.
  • Ensures inventory movement is tracked within the plant and inventory transactions are recorded (raw materials, packaging, finished goods)
  • Prepares and monitors expense budget.
  • Responsible for ensuring capital assets and related depreciation amounts are recorded properly.  In addition responsible for ensuring that appropriate safeguard controls are in place.
  • Functions as plant resource for cost studies.
  • Ensures appropriate internal controls throughout the entire accounting process are in place.
  • Responsible for the management and maintenance of the plant’s petty cash fund.
  • Provides management support for forecasting.
  • Develops and coaches the Finance Technicians
  • Responsible for role modeling the CP Values and Principles of Managing with Respect
  • Accountable for meeting or exceeding safety and quality standards
  • Support implementation of Quality Assurance and Food Safety initiatives. Ensure personnel adhere to Hill’s policies, safety standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices, including Quality Assurance and Food Safety
  • Presentation skills in the form of information sessions, communication sessions, and/or budget reviews.
  • Other job functions that may be assigned.
  • Determine, analyze and develop systems and process to improve the accuracy of the financial systems, to provide enhanced customer service, and to reduce non-value added activities (utilize best practices in recommendations and designs.
  • Provides analytical support as needed (i.e. plant variances, asset effectiveness, KPI’s, overheads, and cost impacts).
  • Special projects and financial support for plant initiatives.





  • For the accuracy of the plant’s operating budget.
  • For the accuracy of the plant’s raw material, packaging, and finished goods inventory amounts.
  • That all plant charges are recorded or accrued in the general ledger.
  • That goods produced are accurately recorded in SAP.
  • That plant standard costs in SAP are reasonable and accurate.




  • Shares information, problem solves and makes plant decisions with the Plant Controller in person.
  • Gains and shares information with Corporate Finance, Product Supply and Purchasing remotely  and  in person.
  • Shares information and problem solves with Cross Functional Team Leaders remotely and in person.
  • Shares information and problem solves with peers at U.S. and European sites remotely and in person.



  • BS degree in Accounting/CPA preferred
  • 5 years experience in Finance or Accounting at a manufacturing facility (food related preferred)



  • Budgeting, Forecasting, and Variance Analysis
  • Accounts Payable including Invoicing, Purchase Order Management, and  Payables Aging Experience
  • SAP, Excel, Word and Access software packages
  • High proficiency in computer and data-entry (access, input, and retrieve information from a computer)
