The Project Manager PD&CS (Product Development & Claim Substantiation) role focuses on new product development, efficacy testing, and providing ongoing category support for existing products with the objective to drive business growth, sustainability, and funding the growth initiatives.

 

  • Represent PD&CS in cross-functional project teams that develop new consumer and professional products for oral care from project initiation until launch in the market
  • Work in close collaboration with Analytical, Implementation & Support, Process Development & Innovation, Microbiology, Regulatory, Safety, Legal, Technology Insights, Consumer Insights, Central Marketing, Global Supply Chain, and Quality to move projects efficiently and in a timely manner from product development stage to commercialization
  • Collaborate with the team’s lab technicians and guide them to carry out required formulation work
  • Evaluate the delivered formulation work products including all formula related analytical, sensory, and stability testing results. Ensure final products meet key release specifications
  • Plan and coordinate in vitro and clinical studies partnering with external academic institutions and contract research organizations
  • Substantiate product claims that adequately communicate formula efficacy and consumer benefits
  • Guide development and validation of new test methods in collaboration with internal and external project partners
  • Connect with counterparts within Early Research, Product Development, Implementation & Support, and other Global Technology Centers to ensure alignment of projects
  • Build up and maintain contacts with suppliers, academic and privately owned research institutions, and external experts to access external technology for material testing and claim substantiation Drive and oversee development of new product formulae from early experimental phase to pilot scale and ensure timely execution of allocated projects meeting and respecting internal and external standards Proactively protect our company’s intellectual property
  • Understand and apply internal and external standards and guidelines to ensure compliance with environmental and occupational health guidelines, product safety, quality, regulatory, legal, and sustainability requirements
  • Ensure category support for existing products including alternative raw material qualification, and formula/process optimization projects
  • Analyze scientific trends in the oral care field (literature review, congress and trade show participation)
  • Contribute to build up and maintain the European GTC quality system as per requirements of the European GTC Quality Manual

 

Competencies Required

 

Travel:

Limited travel up to 15% (congresses, trade shows, visiting suppliers, Universities, Contract Research Organizations, other Colgate locations)

 

Languages:

Be fluent (both written and spoken) in English and German. Additional language skills are a plus

 

IT Skills:

  • Microsoft Office
  • Google Applications (email, calendar, drive, hangouts…)
  • Good knowledge of internal database applications Electronic Laboratory Notebook (eLN), Product Data Management System (PDM), and LabNet are a plus

 

Other:

  • Flexible team player highly motivated and able to work in cross-functional teams
  • Curiosity in other’s work, willingness to develop new skills
  • Ability to explain technical facts in an understandable and compelling way to non-technical functions
  • Potential to develop leadership skills

 

Education:

  • Master or PhD in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Physics, or related
  • Alternatively PhD, Master, or Engineering degree in Food Chemistry, Food Processing Technology, or Formulation Technology

 

Experience:

  • In managing research and/or product development projects involving several stakeholders
  • In formula development for food, cosmetic, medical device, or pharmaceutical products
  • Demonstrated ability to turn ideas into innovative products / technologies / patents
  • In the evaluation and qualification of raw materials / products according to a standard procedure
  • In planning and management of in vitro and/or clinical efficacy studies
  • In statistical data analysis
