Colgate-Palmolive invites applications to a postdoctoral research Scientist (PDRS) position located in Piscataway, NJ. This is a two (2) year fixed term of at-will employment.

The key responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Design and execute experiments to develop new active complexes, build fundamental understanding, guide product improvements and advance project objectives
  • Develop novel methods for screening active ingredients, evaluating formula performance and demonstrating mode of actions
  • Identify new & compelling approaches to convert technology benefits to consumer recognized new benefit areas and/or product claims
  • The systems of interests are active ingredients (such as antibacterial, anti-caries & anti-inflammatory agents) and their interactions with commonly used ingredients in Oral Care & Personal Care products, including surfactants, polymers, amino acids & others, as well as their interactions in various product forms.
  • Interpret and communicate complex experimental results to both technical and non-technical business partners effectively
  • The PDRS will use a variety of analytical & characterization techniques to study active ingredient interactions in Colgate’s next generation products, and work closely with other early research and product development teams to gain insights on improving product efficacy and stability.
  • The PDRS will also have the opportunity to present technical findings to internal R&D community & management teams, to present in external conferences, and to document findings in internal technical reports and/or external publications.


Required Qualifications:

  • Hold a PhD in bio-inorganic chemistry, bio-physical chemistry, or related interdisciplinary fields.
  • Highly knowledgeable in analytical and characterization tools such as microcalorimetry, X-Ray diffraction/scattering, particle size & theta-potential analysis.
  • Familiar with thermal analysis such as Isothermal titration calorimeter, DSC & TGA; various spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques; analytical centrifuges; GC/HPLC/ICP-MS; and light scattering.
  • Be able to initiate and think independently and work effectively in a dynamic & cross functional working environment with strong organizational skills.
  • Be a self-motivated scientist who works well in a team environment with scientists and engineers holding a variety of different backgrounds, skills, and experiences.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.  Be able to communicate complex technical results effectively to technical and non-technical personnel in oral presentations and writing documentations.
  • Have a very strong record of peer-reviewed publications.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preferably have experience and knowledge on coordination chemistry and/or organometallic chemistry or antibacterial reagents.
