Tom's of Maine is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic who will be responsible for the effective operation, major & minor repair and changeovers of production equipment. Works with others to achieves factory business objectives of safety, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection.  The primary accountability of the role include attaining high equipment reliability and uptime, safety compliance, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team. The Maintenance Mechanic works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with others in the same production unit as well as other production units and support functions.


  • Leads major and minor maintenance (making, Packaging). Trouble shoots machinery and equipment during production runs to minimize down time. Maintain the equipment and machinery in clean working order. Assist in adequate inventory parts and supplies
  • Operates and performs changeovers (making, finishing,)  and Machine Set-ups.
  • Coordinates with upstream and downstream processes by working with others in planning, warehouse, receiving and vendor representatives on timing of effective changeovers
  • Assure all production equipment is set up and ready for daily production. You will follow the current SOP’s for the plant and production machinery
  • Maintains work area to required housekeeping standards. Performs housekeeping activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement
  • Execute general maintenance as indicated by our Preventative Maintenance Program
  • Understands and adheres to Environmental, Occupational, Health and Safety requirements
  • Understands and adheres to all Quality, Good Manufacturing Practices and Micro Cleaning & Sanitization Guidelines and standards
  • Executing general building maintenance to insure the factory building facility meets the federally GMP required standards, and safety guidelines required by OSHA.
  • Confirms in-house availability of tools, change and spare parts required to keep production running.
  • Troubleshoots, performs major and minor repairs and preventive maintenance as required to ensure equipment reliability and on-going production (Works with OEM & consultants to solve related problems)
  • Seeks and understands production scheduling and demands. Prioritizes maintenance activities that support and facilitates these schedules and demands.
  • Other job functions that may be assigned.


Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certificate in machinery equipment preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with packaging equipment and machinery
  • Knowledge and experience working with mechanical, electrical and pneumatic controls
  • Knowledge and the ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines and standards
  • Follow standard operating procedures on setting up equipment as well as preventive maintenance schedules and expectations
  • Ability to work well with others or independently
  • Knowledge and ability to follow standard safety procedures
  • Ability to work with the production team to accomplish common goals
  • Requires climbing, bending, kneeling and the ability to lift 50 pounds and the availability to remain on-call for nights and weekend coverage.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, bend to 90 degrees repeatedly


  • Minimum 3 years maintenance work experience in a manufacturing, production or operation environment
  • Experience working with food safety regulated environments (AIB, FDA, USDA, cGMP)
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Technical certifications or degree
  • Experience with PLCs, Variable frequency drives
