The Supply Chain Finance Analyst Intern for Hill's Pet Nutrition provides critical analysis in support of supply chain activities to support our manufacturing operations at our Topeka or Tonganoxie Kansas facilities as well as activities based at our Topeka, KS Corporate HQ office.  The intern will assist with reviewing inventories (raw and packaging materials, work in progress, finished goods), operational KPIs, analysis of variable and fixed costs and support activities relating to vendors, payables and overall plant expenditures including various significant capital expenditures associated with operational / capacity expansion of this facility. Work activities relating to cost management and financial analysis / modeling which are typically covered in college level Accounting, Finance and/or Economics courses.


The role collaborates with Plant Controllers and members of our global supply chain finance team in our Topeka office. The role would also interact with non-finance plant-based teams / partners such as Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Quality, and Human Resources.  


The opportunity will expose interns to Supply Chain, standard costing, P&L and Balance Sheet concepts, manufacturing operations (processing & packaging) applicable to everyday activities at our Kansas manufacturing facilities engaged in the manufacture of premium pet foods, for our global markets, sold under the Science Diet and Prescription Diet brands.   


Alternative work accommodations for the intern could include our Bowling Green, KY, Richmond, IN and Emporia, KS facilities. A measure of work could be done remotely, to be defined and discussed between the intern candidate and the hiring Manager.  


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assist in everyday finance and month-end activities: preparing detailed spending analysis and reports; preparing expense and balance sheet account reconciliations; working with diverse supply chain budget owners; analyzing financial & operational results and preparing / recording journal entries.


  • Work with Plant Controller (finance teams) to prepare accurate and detailed reporting of labor costs and analysis vs. a standard cost or budget position.


  • Assist with reviews and analysis of Property, Plant & Equipment investments, accounting and reconciliations.


  • Create purchase requisitions and convert to purchase orders after approval as requested, working with Procurement teams and other functions requisitioning services and/or materials.


  • Monitor purchase order reports in SAP to ensure timely and accurate goods receipts.


  • Help drive improvement activities in Accounts Payable to reduce process timing, increase reporting capabilities and identify improvement areas. Working with plant / office personnel to ensure timely resolution of vendor invoice queries. 


  • Participate in capital project analysis, verification of progress payments, developing supporting documentation, reviewing vendor disbursements and related reconciliations of purchase orders and remaining spend commitments.


  • Participate in physical inventories, cycle counts and assist in researching inventory variances.


  • Participate in the preparation of the plant’s budget / cost forecasts and actual results vs budget.


  • Assist in verifying overall governance and internal controls supporting our Sarbanes-Oxley oversight and adherence to GAAP and Colgate-Palmolive financial policies.


  • Participation on cross-functional teams and special projects, as needed.

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA

  • Have completed junior year, or by next May

  • Graduate on or before May 2023 / 24

  • Degree focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Business Analytics / Information Systems or related degree program

  • Strong use of Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) or Microsoft Excel or Macros / Database tools

  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills, and ability to plan and prioritize

  • Willing to relocate within the US after graduation
