Job Summary

The Implementation & Support group is responsible for adapting and geographically expanding innovative products across our premium wellness and therapeutic product portfolios. The senior thermal process scientist has expert knowledge of thermal processing requirements for low-acid foods packaged in hermetically sealed containers under 21 CFR 113.83. They will require working closely with formulation scientists, quality, regulatory, supply chain, manufacturing technology, procurement, packaging, external ingredient suppliers and internal manufacturing colleagues to ensure finished products achieve adequate treatment for shelf-stability.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of sole-source nutritional solutions that deliver against specified nutrient, ingredient, quality & cost requirements
  • Validate product performance through coordination & interpretation of product analytical, biological, palatability, sensory, thermal processing and stability testing 
  • Partner with manufacturer colleagues and manufacturing technology to optimize product and process development
  • Development of ingredient, finished product specifications, and other project documentation
  • Budgets and tracks project costs for initiatives
  • Ongoing quality, safety, and related training

 

Education/ Experience Requirements

 

Basic requirements: 

  • 5 years of experience in wet pet food  

  • 2+ Years of Thermal Process Authority Experience 

  • BS in Food Science, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, Food Engineering or related field

  • Completed Better Process Control School complying with 21 CFR 128b

 

Other required experience or qualifications:

  • Demonstrated understanding of formula development process and basic food science principles

  • Possesses basic understanding in regulatory, product safety and quality requirements relevant to functional responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to design and run scientific experiments

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute projects 

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate and lead in a cross-functional environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.

 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • MS in Food Science, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, Food Engineering or related field

 

Expected Areas of Skills 

  • Least cost formula development understanding & experience

  • Food science and integrated product design knowledge for optimal functionality

  • Identifies and negotiates with business partners and management on technical issues and deliverables

  • Experience planning and leading cross functional development projects

  • Efficient at utilizing Google/Microsoft productivity apps & statistical software

  • Experience budgeting and tracking project costs

  • Excellent communication skills (written & oral)

 

Salary Range $88,800 - $125,000 USD
Pay is based on several non discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location. In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive
offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
