The Product Development group is responsible for bringing new product innovation to market across our premium wellness and therapeutic product portfolios that help transform the lives of pets.

 

What role will you play as a member of the Hill's Pet Nutrition team?  As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for providing nutrition expertise to our product development scientists by guiding the nutritional design of our wellness & therapeutic foods for dogs and cats.  Collaboration on product design with our claims and clinical studies group will help ensure our foods deliver the required efficacy and claims.  Excellent foundational knowledge of animal or human nutrition, nutrient requirements, and nutritional impacts on health status are important requirements for this role.

 

What you will do: 

 

You are a nutritionist (50%) -

  • Apply your nutrition expertise to lead the development and oversight of the nutritional design requirements for our products that support product claims and efficacy. 
  • Establish new nutrition claims with technical substantiation that lead to the development of new product benefits relevant to pets, pet parents and veterinarians.
  • Bridge the work between Research and Innovation and the Clinical Studies team to integrate scientific findings into actionable product applications, acting as a subject matter expert for nutritional product design.

You are a collaborator (25%) -

  • Develop constructive relationships with Hill’s scientists and cross functional partners (Regulatory, Legal, Professional Veterinary Affairs and Hill’s Marketing leaders) to become the primary point of contact for nutritional product design input, guidance, and assistance.
  • Proactively stay abreast of new nutrition and veterinary medicine findings (internal and external) to help translate research into product design and claims.
  • Cultivate relationships with researchers and clinicians outside of Hill’s to provide expertise, ideas, capabilities and technologies that address gaps and opportunities.

You are a developer (25%) -

  • Lead the development of sole-source nutritional solutions that deliver against specified nutrient, ingredient, quality & cost requirements
  • Validate product performance through coordination & interpretation of product analytical, biological, palatability, sensory and stability testing
  • Develop ingredient and finished product specifications
  • Create final formula documentation and supporting information

Required Qualifications: 

 

Basic qualifications include: 

  • B.S. in Animal Nutrition, Nutrition Science, or Human Nutrition (or related scientific field)
  • At least 5 years of relevant academic or industry experience
  • Exposure to or experience in designing, executing and or monitoring clinical studies, feeding studies or nutrition experiments in veterinary or human pharmaceutical, medical or nutritional fields
  • Experience in animal feed formulation, pet food formulation, or human food design and formulation
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Efficient at utilizing Google/Microsoft productivity apps & statistical software
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate


Preferred qualifications include:

  • Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist or PhD in Animal Nutrition, Nutrition Science, or Human Nutrition (or related scientific field)
  • Demonstrated understanding of physiology, biochemistry, scientific information gathering, synthesis, and communication
  • Fundamental knowledge in veterinary science, food processing, food science, regulatory, claims or  intellectual property (patents)
