Hill’s Pet Nutrition Center, Topeka, KS is seeking a highly creative and motivated research scientist with a strong background in molecular or cell biology to join our high-impact research program interested in supporting interdisciplinary projects in biological sciences, nutrition, and genomics within the Life Science Laboratory. The position will focus on establishing newer in vitro model systems and molecular biology laboratory techniques to advance understanding of cell signaling pathways, immunology, and disease biology leading to solving problems in pet health and wellness. In addition, knowledge or experience in assessing cognitive function in canines will be a plus. This is a full time position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish, optimize, and validate new and innovative biological assays as required by the Research Plan by performing molecular biology experiments on the bench.
- Establish cognitive assessment tests in dogs in-house or supervise and lead studies of cognitive testing conducted externally.
- Data analysis including interpreting, summarizing, and reporting data in the form of final reports, technical summaries, and external scientific publications and presentations
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects, research and assess novel biological techniques and provide leadership and guidance to scientists to establish such techniques in the laboratory.
- Collaborate with nutritionists, bioinformaticians, veterinarians, and internal subject matter experts to establish novel biological assays to facilitate delivery of new technology
- Cultivate relationships with researchers and clinicians outside of Hill’s to elevate Hills’ science by identifying opportunities for innovation.
Education/ Experience Requirements:
Basic qualifications include:
- A completed Masters degree in molecular biology, physiology, biomedical sciences, or a related scientific field and 7+ years of relevant work experience
- Ability to plan and work independently, detail-oriented, and with problem-solving and leadership skills
- Ability to work in the US without sponsorship
Preferred qualifications include:
- A completed PhD in molecular biology, physiology, biomedical sciences, or a related scientific field
- Experience with interdisciplinary skills in cell biology and transcriptomics
- Experience in analytical, oral and communication skills
- Knowledge of current advances in RNA and DNA sequencing
- Knowledge of cognitive testing in canines
Expected Areas of Skills
- Knowledge of PCR, cell culture, confocal microscopy, sequencing, and microfluidics is desired
Salary Range $86,400 - $126,840 USD
Pay is based on several non discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location. In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
