At Hill's Pet Nutrition, we are committed to transforming the lives of pet families through innovative and scientifically backed nutrition. As a Scientist, you will join our dynamic research and technology team, dedicated to driving product development within our premium wellness and therapeutic product portfolios. Your role involves leading formula development and production scale-up for dog and cat foods, working collaboratively with teams in quality, regulatory, supply chain, and ingredient procurement to ensure successful product outcomes. You will also partner with our nutritional design group to align formulas with the desired efficacy and claims, contributing significantly to our mission of enriching the special relationships between people and their pets.
What you will do
- You are a developer
- Lead the development of sole-source nutritional solutions that deliver against specified nutrient, ingredient, quality & cost requirements
- Validate product performance through coordination & interpretation of product analytical, biological, palatability, sensory and stability testing
- Development of ingredient and finished product specifications
- Creation of final formula documentation and supporting information
- You are a collaborator
- Develop constructive relationships with Hill’s scientists and cross functional partners (Regulatory, Legal, Professional Veterinary Affairs and Hill’s Marketing leaders) to provide product design input, guidance, and assistance.
- Stay abreast of new research findings (internal and external) to translate learnings into product design.
- Cultivate relationships with researchers and colleagues outside of Hill’s to provide expertise, ideas, capabilities and technologies that fill gaps.

Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Food Science, Food/Process Engineering or related field (or related scientific field)
- At least 5 years of Food Industry Experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Food Science, Food/Process Engineering or related field (or related scientific field)
- Experience in product design and development (Preferably sole source nutritional products in animal/human food industry)
- Demonstrated understanding of formula development process and food science principles
- Possesses basic understanding in regulatory, product safety and quality requirements relevant to functional responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to design and run scientific experiments
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate and lead in a cross-functional environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $115,000 - $130,000 USD
Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
