In today's dynamic environment, it is an exciting time to be a part of the research and technology team at Hill's Pet Nutrition. Our highly technical and innovative team is dedicated to driving growth in this ever-changing landscape. The Product Development group is responsible for bringing new product innovation to market across our premium wellness and therapeutic product portfolios that help transform the lives of pets. What role will you play as a member of the Hill's Pet Nutrition team? As a Food Process Engineer, you will be responsible for driving production process innovation and supporting the formula development and production scale-up phases of wellness & therapeutic foods for dogs and cats. This will involve working closely with fellow product development scientists and supply chain colleagues to ensure successful product development and scale-up is achieved.
What you will do
- You are an engineer -
- Lead the design, testing and validation work on new food production systems and processes
- Assess current production systems to identify potential optimizations and efficiencies
- You are a collaborator -
- Partner with product development colleagues to optimize product design and production processes to support successful scale-up and production of new formulas.
- Participate in ongoing quality, safety, and related training
- You are a developer -
- Lead the development of sole-source nutritional solutions that deliver against specified nutrient, ingredient, quality & cost requirements
- Validation of product performance through coordination & interpretation of product analytical, biological, palatability, sensory and stability testing
- Development of ingredient and finished product specifications
- Creation of final formula documentation and supporting information
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Engineering or related field
- At least 4 years of relevant academic or food industry experience
- Experience and knowledge in industrial food manufacturing
- Understanding of sanitary design for equipment and facility infrastructure
- Basic understanding in regulatory, product safety and quality requirements relevant to functional responsibilities
- Ability to design and run scientific experiments
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Efficient at utilizing Google/Microsoft productivity apps & statistical software
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate and lead in a cross-functional environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills
- Understanding of formula development process and basic food science principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Food Engineering or related field
- At least 1 year experience in product design and development (Preferably sole source nutritional products in animal/human food industry)
- Experience working with CAD software
