Job Summary

Work independently and collaboratively in research activities, prepare regulatory and registry documentation and ensure compliance with all regulations and statutes during the development, manufacture, and sale of Hill’s Pet Nutrition products. Develop strong regulatory understanding to provide expertise and advise on regulatory requirements, processes and activities for the governance of pet food. Support regulatory related activities, including but not limited to: regulatory intelligence gathering, international and domestic regulatory submissions, ingredients, labeling, claims, import/export processes & review process for packaging, marketing materials, digital information and product life-cycle activities.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • SAP and Information Systems Subject Matter Expert: Apply conceptual knowledge of business processes and technology to resolve issues or improve existing procedures.  Develop and provide training to all Regulatory users as new enhancements or versions of software are released as well as manage access for all new Hill’s Regulatory users.  Create, release and manage change of technical data in SAP.  Serve as the Regulatory representative for the SAP/PDM Steering Committee.  Develop proficiency in other relevant information systems.

  • Regulatory Subject Matter Expert: Serve as Regulatory representative for product compliance.  Assemble and help communicate information relative to product changes, new product attributes and current go to market information and timing.  Raise critical project issues, identify root causes, and propose potential solutions.  Assist in the development and execution of brand strategies for new product launches, reformulations and product improvements.

  • Regulatory Process Support: Maintain regulatory files and electronic databases and develop SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures), Work Instructions and Regulatory Points Of View (POV) in order to maintain standardization for regulatory processes and guidance.  Track and report status of assigned regulatory activities and functions. Develop expertise for the sampling and analysis program supporting international product registrations. 

  • Regulatory Intelligence and Troubleshooting: Develop industry regulatory expertise and provide support to aid in assessing and troubleshooting issues as they arise.  Develop and continually  upgrade a strong working knowledge of AAFCO Rules, FDA and relevant international regulations and guidelines that affect the pet food industry.  Maintain extensive product line knowledge to assure high standards for accurate and consistent responses to internal and external customers.

  • Internal and External Relationship Building: Develop and maintain good working business relationships with internal groups such as Legal, R&D, Quality, Marketing, and Customer Service as well as relevant external government officials and vendors, as needed.  Translate knowledge of science, technology and characteristics of Hill's products and processes to effectively communicate cross-functionally with Product Development, Clinical Nutrition & Claims, Quality, and regulatory agencies.  Represent organization as requested with industry/regulatory organizations.

 

 

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Required:  Bachelor’s degree in business, policy, natural sciences or related field

  • Preferred:  Master’s or PhD in business, policy, animal sciences or DVM


 

Experience:

  • Required:  Minimum of 4 years of work experience, with 2 years supporting regulatory affairs, product development, international shipping/logistics, and/or compliance

  • Preferred: 3+ years regulatory affairs, quality, compliance or legal work experience

Preferred: Pet Food industry experience or a technical background in: Regulatory Science, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Laboratory Sciences or similar work experience.
