Job Summary

The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will be a contributor as part of a team preparing regulatory submissions for registry and export.    This individual will develop a basic regulatory understanding while providing input and advice on regulatory requirements and processes for the governance of pet food.  This person will participate in regulatory related activities, including but not limited to: regulatory intelligence gathering, international and domestic regulatory documentation and submissions, evaluation of products for export eligibility, and other import/export processes as needed.   



Principal Duties and Responsibilities



  • Prepare  documentation for submission to regulatory agencies

  • Audit export/import documents for accuracy and compliance as well as drive continuous improvement efforts to improve efficiencies and service levels as it relates to meeting regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with the USDA on health certificate requirements and changes ensuring requirements are met.

  • Develop and grow expertise in USDA/ FDA regulations governing the export of pet food and relevant international regulations and guidelines that affect the pet food industry

  • Collaborate with Customer Service and Logistics, CBS, and Quality Teams to ensure that all compliance and regulatory requirements are met for timely export of products.

  • Develop and maintain good working business relationships with internal groups such as Legal, R&D, Quality, Customer Service, and Global CBS Teams as well as relevant external government officials and vendors as needed.

  • Provide general support to international/global Regulatory functions  

  • Research and respond to both internal and external customer inquiries relating to documentation.

  • Develop proficiency in SAP, PDM, BI, AO Docs, Regulatory Tracking System and other systems as identified

  • Contribute to KPI tracking and reporting to stakeholders

  • Maintain digital tools needed to support automation of Export Documentation.

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts/projects 

  • Raise critical project issues, identifies root causes, and proposes potential solutions

  • Apply scientific knowledge and strong sense of curiosity in all aspects of the job, including innovation, problem-solving, and troubleshooting.

  • Challenge established ways of doing things and recommend improvements


Education/ Experience Requirements


Basic qualifications include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, policy, natural sciences or related field

  • Minimum of 1+ year of professional work experience.


Preferred qualifications include: 

  • Master’s degree in business, policy or in a related technical discipline 

  • 3+ years of regulatory experience, preferably with completing official regulatory documentation 

  • Pet Food industry experience or a technical background in: Regulatory Science, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Laboratory Sciences, veterinary/animal clinic experience, or similar work experience.

  • Ability to focus on detail while meeting critical timelines

  • Ability to read, speak and write a second language a plus
