Colgate-Palmolive is recruiting candidates for the role of Manager, State and Local Tax.  This position will sit at the Hill’s Corporate office in Topeka, KS with the Hill’s Tax Department and the Indirect State Tax COE, putting this position close to other key finance and business resources within the Hill’s Division.  This position supports the Colgate SALT Director as well as the Hill’s Tax COE Director in managing state and local income tax for Hill’s. This includes compliance management, apportionment, planning, and incentive support.  Additionally, the role will provide support for Colgate state income tax where needed and will also support the Indirect State Tax COE, providing support for property and other indirect tax needs.


Specific position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Manage state and local tax provision, reserves, etc. for Hill’s and support Colgate SALT provision as needed;

  • Prepare and/or review Hill’s separate company income tax returns, using OneSource Income Tax software;

  • Manage Hill’s quarterly income tax estimates and extensions;

  • Prepare and analyze state apportionment for Hill’s;

  • Manage any Hill’s income tax audits, inquiries, notices, or litigation;

  • Assist Colgate SALT Director and Senior Analyst in preparing and/or reviewing combined return compliance;

  • Monitor for and prepare any incentive compliance (KS HPIP, KY KRA, abatements, etc.);

  • Calculate state income tax credits and ensure proper inclusion in income tax provision;

  • Support SALT Director and Hill’s Tax COE Director in identifying tax issues and opportunities for the Hill’s domestic business, and collaborating to determine tax consequences and implement solutions (i.e., state tax planning);

  • Monitor state tax law changes and analyze impact to Colgate and ensure continued compliance;

  • Oversee Indirect Tax Analyst with Colgate and Hill’s property tax compliance and budgeting;

  • Monitor property valuations for appeal or savings opportunities;

  • Provide technical support for other state indirect tax types (sales and use tax, gross receipts taxes, business license/annual report management, tonnage, etc.) as needed to support Indirect Tax Manager and SALT group;

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • 5+ years overall tax experience, public or private; 

  • 3+ years technical state income tax experience;

  • BS, BA or degree in Accounting;

  • CPA preferred;

  • Working understanding of SAP;

  • Experience/working knowledge of Excel;

  • Detailed technical knowledge of state tax law and ability to apply such knowledge in a strategic and compliant manner;

  • Knowledge and awareness of US federal income tax and international tax rules;

  • Knowledge of and experience with ASC740 accounting for income tax;
  • Ability to research and communicate complex tax, technical issues;
  • Understanding of or experience with property tax and other indirect taxes preferred;
  • Familiarity with OneSource Tax software or alternative tax software preferred;

  • Understanding of US GAAP Tax Reporting preferred;

  • Cross functional / cross leadership exposure preferred.
