Hill’s Pet Nutrition in Topeka, Kansas is seeking an experienced, innovative and highly motivated Clinical Research Veterinarian to contribute towards delivering an exceptional animal care program as well as partnering with our scientist researchers to produce high quality feeding trial data.


Position Responsibilities

Primary responsibility is to provide all aspects of veterinary medical, surgical, dental and behavioral health care services for our dog and cat pet partners at the Hill's Global Pet Nutrition Center in Topeka, Kansas.  Clinical Research Veterinary responsibility includes, but is not limited to:


  • Develop and implement programs for population and preventative medicine.

  • Routine and non-routine surgical, medical and dental health procedures.

  • Collaborate with our cross-functional teams of Nutritionists, Veterinarians, Food Scientists and Engineers to identify suitable pet partners for feeding trials, coordinate pretrial activities and monitor the progress of these trials.  Provide expertise in the interpretation of animal health related data.

  • Coach, train and mentor animal care, clinical laboratory, veterinary hospital and veterinary nursing staff.

  • Study oversight by reviewing protocols and ensuring compliance with approved procedures

  • Participate in veterinary on-call duty on weekends and holidays on a rotational basis

  • Ensure compliance with relevant State, Federal and internal animal welfare regulations.


Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • DVM/VMD from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine 

  • 5+ years of experience in clinical veterinary practice with a primary focus on dog and cat medicine and surgery.

  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state with the expectation to become licensed in Kansas within 12 months.

  • Federally accredited or the ability to become federally accredited within 12 months

  • Eligible for State and Federal registration to handle controlled substances.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a research setting as a clinical veterinarian.

  • Board Certification and/or additional academic/clinical training in a relevant area of small animal veterinary medicine.  

  • Knowledge of animal welfare compliance oversight

  • Experience working in animal programs regulated by USDA APHIS.

  • High motivation, demonstrated initiative, independent and flexible in thinking, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

  • Strong documentation, writing, teaching and oral communication skills.

  • Experience with multiple software platforms, including electronic data capture and data management.
