Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing Hill's Global Analytical processes and plant method/instrument implementation and systems maintenance. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Rapid on-line/in-line/at-line methods for process monitoring, control, and release of raw materials, premixes, and finished products.   
  • Plant support: choosing hardware, developing applications, training, technology transfer, validating and monitoring analytical lab data and instrumentation for the Hill’s Analytical and Contract Manufacturing laboratories. 
  • Continuously enhancing Analytical processes, equipment and methodologies to support the Corporate Analytical program goals.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Rapid Methods

  • Support strategy/standard operating procedure development, and implementation of the Hill’s rapid analysis program.  
  • Manage the NIR program, to include the development and management of ingredient and finished product calibrations, maintenance of equipment and management of existing calibrations. 
  • Function as the rapid analytical technical advisor for plant teams.
  • Develop and foster relationships with external laboratory resources.

Plant Support 

  • Support strategy, development, and work with Plant Analytical to implement new analytical equipment and associated methods.  This includes validation, training, and implementation for ingredients and finished products.
  • Support plant teams on equipment maintenance and vendor service issues. 
  • Provide leadership for efficient and effective execution of technology transfer processes for developed methods.
  • In concert with Supply Chain Processing Systems, design and perform feasibility studies of potential new applications for process monitoring and control.
  • Design, implement and manage Hill’s check sample and control sample programs to ensure data integrity and continuous improvement.

Continuously Improve Analytical processes, equipment and methodologies

  • Identification, development, validation and maintenance of rapid analytical methods to support manufacturing consistency and product quality, including in-line/on-line methods using NIR. Develop and maintain SOPs in support of the Corporate Analytical program.
  • Audit Hill’s laboratories to identify issues and develop strategies for resolution.
  • Participate as a Corporate Quality auditor in quality audit programs
  • Other duties as assigne


Basic qualifications required:

  • BS in Chemistry or equivalent Analytical Science
  • Minimum 5 years Quality manufacturing/ Analytical experience in a Food or drug/ cGMP environment 
  • Minimum 2 years experience with managing relationships
  • Minimum 2 years scientific and technical knowledge of chemistry and analytical techniques
  • Minimum of 1 year working knowledge of complementary disciplines

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Masters/ PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or equivalent
  • 5+ years Quality manufacturing / Analytical experience in a Food or drug / cGMP environment
  • 3+ years managing external relationships
  • Experience with Separation technologies (HPLC/GC/TLC/MS) 
  • Certified Auditor
