Job Summary

At Hill's-Colgate (Japan) Ltd., this position is responsible for the demand plan and its accuracy (according to the product lead time) in order to support the growth and to optimize the supply chain cost without impacting customer service. The scope of demand forecast includes all finished goods (on-going, new products, promotion, etc) for 18 months (at least 12 months)

This position is fully accountable for the subsidiary demand plan.  The final demand plan should be the result of cross-functional alignment and reflect the latest commercial plans in order to meet business objectives, managed through the monthly discipline process.

The Demand Planning Specialist or Assistant Manager is the main contact between the commercial teams and reports to Demand & Supply Planning Manager to achieve the supply chain target of Customer Service, Inventory (incl. Slow and Obsolete Inventory - SLOB), Waste, and to drive continuous improvement.


*Typical KPI’s include Demand Planning Accuracy, +/- Planning Bias, Case Fill, Inventory level, SLOB, and Waste, etc


Principal Duties and Responsibilities





  • Review & Build Collaborative Demand Plan -  review the historical actual demand and identify the factor of gap vs forecast, and then reflect the future demand through Monthly discipline to develop an aligned demand plan. Gaps & opportunities are identified, quantified & addressed. *Interact with the local commercial teams to gather customer plans & other demand inputs. Monitor and determine deviations vs. statistical demand plan, gain alignment, & document their key assumptions. 


  • Support New Product Planning & Life Cycle Planning –  work cross-functionally to finalize pipeline volume & the first 6 months of demand for new products. Encourage collaboration with a cross-functional team to manage & communicate SKU performance and ensure SKU life cycle processes and updates are executed timely.


  • Measure & Track Performance – review/monitor the Demand Planning Metrics and identify/drive opportunities to improve the demand planning process & results.

Education/ Experience Requirements

Education and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above
  • Native level Japanese

  • Business level English



  • 3 years experience in Demand Planning
  • Experience in the following is preferred:
    • Customer Development (Sales)
    • Sales Planning
    • Quantitative Analysis
    • Process improvement


Expected Areas of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience of teamwork

  • Cross-functional coordination/alignment

  • Basic Supply Chain Awareness

  • Financial literacy

  • SAP knowledge
