Job Purpose:

As a Hill’s Data Engineer you will support our teams on data initiatives and will ensure efficient data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. 

You are someone that will be excited by the prospect of optimising or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of product and data initiatives. 

You are an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimising data systems and building them from the ground up. 

You will be part of a team that loves to learn and you will collaborate on a day to day basis!

This role is responsible for expanding and optimising our data, data pipeline architecture, data flow and collection for multi-functional teams. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assemble large, sophisticated data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for efficient extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.
  • Assist with data-related technical issues and support data infrastructure needs.
  • Work with our commercial data analyst to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
  • Support of sales team with data visualization tools 

The key to success in this role is to embrace a continuous learning mindset, understand our business goals, be data quality focused and champion the democratization of data.

Your role as a data engineer will be instrumental in driving democratization of data as well as making data driven decisions a reality for all.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics,Information Systems or another quantitative field a plus
  • We are looking for a candidate with at least 2 years of experience in a Data Engineer role
  • Proven experience developing data pipelines leveraging modern cloud data engineering practices using various open - source technologies is essential. 
  • Previous experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases such as Big Query and Snowflakes is essential
  • Implementation of large-scale data warehousing and data modeling concepts using Snowflake and BigQuery is essential.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and find opportunities for improvement
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • A successful history of harmonizing, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
  • Experience supporting and working with multi-functional teams in a dynamic environmentPrevious experience in Tableau (highly regarded) Strong analytic skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets using  Python and/or R is highly desirable.
