Tom's of Maine is seeking a Making Technician to execute the manufacturing of natural toothpaste products while meeting safety, quality, and productivity goals. The role supports the Making Area activities through Factory Performance & Reliability program elements such as visual workplace, equipment operating maintenance, and continuous improvement. The role also supports the facility with cleaning, repair, groundskeeping, and other support as needed. This position requires occasional overtime and weekend work.

This is a 1st Shift position with working hours Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with occasional required overtime on Saturdays.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Safety - Ensure all EOHS requirements (Environmental Occupational Health and Safety) are met while you handle materials and operate equipment.

  • Quality -Ensure all quality guidelines (Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures) are followed during all manufacturing and cleaning processes. This includes documenting all batch, material, label, and in-process data with accuracy and neatness to meet FDA guidelines. Keeping  the Making Area and equipment clean and organized at all times is critical.

  • Productivity – Operate Making Area equipment  to achieve production targets with minimal waste and downtime. Cross-train to achieve mastery of all making system operations, material handling/documentation, and equipment set-up/routine maintenance.

  • Leadership –Work within the team environment in a professional and respectful manner. Attend all meetings promptly and engage in their content. Lead or contribute to Factory Performance & Reliability projects that promote continuous improvement.

Core Making Technician Responsibilities:

  • Execute the manufacture of batches of toothpaste in adherence to production schedule, batch instructions and other applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Handle and weigh raw materials to be used in toothpaste manufacturing, with expert-level accuracy and attention to detail

  • Clean and sanitize Making Area, specifically equipment and tools

  • Accurately manage all documentation associated with toothpaste batches in accordance with Quality and GMP standards

  • Operate fork trucks and other equipment to transport raw materials, in-progress and finished goods

  • Navigate SAP and other computerized Making Area programming/system transactions

  • Apply Lock Out/Tag Out procedures as needed

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of manufacturing experience preferred

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English

  • Consistent accuracy with mathematical calculations

  • Ability to lift repeatedly up to 55 lbs

  • Ability to operate machinery safely

  • Understand the quality specifications of each product and ensure they are met

  • Follow all quality guidelines (Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures)

  • To produce units at a rate determined by the line speed, maintaining smooth and continuous production flow with minimal waste in support of daily production goals


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $24.35 - $24.35 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
