The Quality Systems Team Leader leads the Analytical team to ensure Company quality standards are met in the following areas:


Quality Analytical Testing: ensure compliance to company standards by conducting tests, reporting results and addressing non-compliance by following through with key stakeholders to identify root causes, corrective actions and preventive actions.

Continuous Improvement: to understand and drive the Continuous Improvement of plant quality performance for analytical issues.

Training and standardization:  to develop, design and deliver all analytical aspects of quality training including new hire, new process, new equipment and new policy training.

Food Safety Compliance: Understand and implement all plant, company and government standards for food safety and anti-bioterrorism initiatives.

Communication: Ensures that the reporting of data and maintenance of records is documented.  Also, that the interpretation of the data is correct and that the results are effectively communicated to appropriate individuals, including management.



  • Troubleshoots quality issues and oversees continuous improvement for raw materials, finished product quality, and testing requirements.

  • Responsible for conducting investigations of all Food Safety / Non-conformance issues through utilization of CAPA process.

  • Manages the release or rejection of raw ingredients, work-in-process, and finished goods.

  • Manages overall analytical lab programs, including processes, testing, and hold/release.

  • Conducts formal Quality Standards and internal/external systems audits on the analytical lab and implements changes to close any gaps, and keep quality team informed about progress and potential risks.

  • Ensures compliance to official lab methods, calibration of analytical equipment, calibration of rapid analytical equipment, preventative maintenance, check samples, and management of library samples.

  • Responsible for Specification Management including ingredient specifications, finished product formulas and specifications, and processing specifications.

  • Manages plant quality SOPs and document control.

  • Assists with execution and follow up of regulatory, internal, and external audits (i.e. FDA, USDA, State, AIB, Corporate, SQF, FP&R etc.).

  • Manages Statistical Process Control (SPC) plan.

  • Liaisons with the Pet Nutrition Center and MET for the commissioning of new diets and formula changes to prepare for manufacture within the plant.

  • Responsible for leading and supporting the Management of Change program.

  • Identifies and initiates quality improvements. Advises improvements to process, product, quality systems and working instructions.  Measures and report plant Quality KPI’s.

  • Provides Food Safety Training to the Plant Operations team based on compliance needs.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or other related scientific field 

  • At least 3 years of manufacturing or consumer product goods and laboratory experience.

  • Practical experience in Chemical Analyses.

  • Practical experience in Quality Systems and Documentation.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated performance of project management and time management skills 

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • SAP Experience

  • Auditing and Compliance Process

  • Vendor Certification

  • Food Plant Manufacturing Processes

  • American Society for Quality certification as CQT, CQM, or CQE
