Associate Regulatory Affairs Manager

Job Summary

The Associate Regulatory Affairs manager supervises the label / copy sheet development processes in the region and provides managerial support for technical and regulatory accuracy of the packaging / label copies as well as European data in the Hill’s global databases. He/She is responsible for the regulatory part of export / import activities for the region, for countries exporting from the EU and for global supply projects.  He/She facilitates the regional and global decisions on packaging/label development/ ingredients / additives and import / export operations by functioning as Regulatory subject matter expert and liaison for Regulatory Affairs. He/She works with veterinary control authorities and government agencies in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and in the countries to facilitate exports / imports and assure regulatory compliance and oversees the health certification process and products registrations process in the region.

Trade association work: represent Hill’s in the European Pet Food Association (FEDIAF) and in the Czech Pet Food Association.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Task

Team leader: label development and data management

  • Supervises development of the English master of the technical label copy (composition, analytical constituents, additives, feeding instructions for all Hill’s packaging in the region, as well as for the Hill’s keypages.
  • Coordinate the label and key page approval process, including timely review and approval by cross functional SME and local translators.
  • Supervise maintenance of the technical content of the Hill’s product databases in the region.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts, develop and implement procedures / systems to ensure accuracy, legal compliance and process efficiency.

Regulatory expert: exports / imports, ingredients, additives

  • Support Regional Regulatory Affairs Manager on resolution of complex regulatory matters/problems involving exports/imports. Works with Dutch, Czech and exporting countries’ vet control authorities as needed.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service and Logistics to ensure that all compliance and regulatory requirements are met for timely export of products.
  • Supervise development of accurate, complete and compliant regulatory documentation for exports/imports. Audit export/import documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor & actively share international regulatory information. Provide training with departments and personnel that impact export and import compliance.

SME Advisement:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of applicable regulations in the region.
  • Uses knowledge of label and data management processes and procedures to advise the business in devising strategies to support successful product introductions in the region.
  • Research, update and maintain country-specific regulatory intelligence files. Write regulatory assessments for PIRs and regulatory points of view (POV) as needed.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of regulatory personnel including mentoring, training, performance management and development.

Education/ Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, food science, nutrition or other scientific/technical field.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 3-4 years in preparing international regulatory export/import documentation, analyzing and interpreting product and export/import/registration regulations.
  • Required: Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in interpreting and applying rules and regulations applicable to pet food.
  • Preferred: 3-4 years’ experience in regulatory affairs within any of the following industries: pet food, food, OTC drugs, medical device, pharmaceutical, or relevant industry where supporting exports/imports.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with domestic and international regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding and expertise in all aspects of export and import regulations
  • Proficiency in SAP (PDM)
