Job Summary

The GTeD Microbiology Lab Supervisor is responsible for Microbiology laboratory operations, ensuring that the laboratory activities are performed in conformance to Colgate Palmolive standards and guidelines.  The Lab Supervisor plays a critical role in implementing and maintaining microbiology programs and overseeing microbial challenge tests and suitability to ensure that all production meets the requirements of internal microbiological quality standards, in support of new product development at the Global Technology and Design Center. 

 

Core Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage laboratory microbiological programs. Ensure all testing is performed according to corporate methods and policy and adhere to cGMP and good microbiological practices. This includes overseeing and maintaining the laboratory quality assurance system that covers methodologies and material qualification as well as equipment IQ/OQ/PQ, calibration & maintenance.

  • Ensure and perform analysis of data and test results.

  • Implement the microbiological sampling and testing programs and ensure adherence for water, raw materials, environmental samples & finished products at the facility. This plan must be based on QS 023.

  • Ensure Data Integrity of the laboratory testing, electronic and written systems and processes, and equipment management, etc. Ensure reporting and interpretation of the data is correct and that the results are effectively communicated to appropriate individuals, including management.

  • Train, develop, and coach the laboratory staff using the principles of Coaching & Feedback as well as the Competency Development Map for Microbiology.

  • Build a strong partnership with Research & Development to support the microbiological approval process of new and modified formulas, providing recommendations on formulation challenges, analysis of results, ensuring proper technology transfer of microbiological methods from research and development to manufacturing, and interacting with regional microbiology leaders.

  • Understand and use basic laboratory safety equipment and instructions, precautions in handling and disposing of biological materials, in accordance with local environmental regulations.

  • Support the implementation and experimental analysis of new and rapid laboratory technology in a GMP environment

  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of the Global Microbiology and Global Quality programs

  • Ensure proper investigation of failures, documentation out of specification results, and trending review

  • Participate in appropriate internal audits and external audits (contract manufacturers & labs, suppliers, etc.) Function as part of the Plant GMP & Quality Team.

  • Interface with Global & Divisional Quality/Microbiology teams to provide input on programs, procedures and methods, and receive guidance & support on implementation of programs.

  • As needed, assists in performing microbiological testing in support of product development and new technologies

  • Supports and conducts laboratory training for microbiologists globally, as needed

  • Additional responsibilities, as required

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and Master´s degree in Microbiology or related biological science required

  • PhD preferred 

  • Must include significant course work in Microbiology (at least four courses).

  • At least 6-8 years of industrial experience (R&D, Personal Care, Pharmaceutical, Food, Environmental) in Microbiology

  • Team/people management supervisory experience

  • Strong understanding and practical knowledge of cGMP, ALCOA, and data integrity related to both manual and digital applications within a laboratory setting (Preferred)

Salary Range $88,800 - $131,250 USD
