It is an exciting time to be part of Colgate-Palmolive's Global Legal Team!  Colgate-Palmolive is currently recruiting a qualified candidate for the position of Litigation Counsel.  As a Litigation Counsel, you will assist the Chief Litigation Counsel and other members of the team with a variety of litigation matters, with a primary focus on marketing and false advertising litigation and consumer class actions.   


What you will do:


Position responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following areas:


  • Defending the Company in arbitrations, mediations and government agency hearings;
  • Conducting internal fact investigations and early evaluation and assessments relating to case-specific legal and factual issues;
  • Collecting and reviewing documents as part of the Company’s litigation risk assessment;
  • Liaising with opposing counsel on litigation matters, including settlement negotiations;
  • Responding to counsel letters threatening litigation;
  • Attending court conferences and trials and assisting the Company’s outside counsel where appropriate;
  • Reviewing and editing pleadings including motions, statements, memoranda, legal briefs, and affidavits;
  • Assisting with the preparation of responses to interrogatories, documents requests, and requests for admission;
  • Counseling the business and assisting with risk assessments relating to marketing and advertising campaigns;
  • Interacting with Company business partners in the management and prosecution of litigations;
  • Conducting legal research;
  • Assisting with Litigation Hold and Document Management Program oversight.
Position Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree and JD degree required;
  • 5-8 years of litigation experience within a major law firm and/or as in-house litigation counsel;
  • Experience conducting internal investigations;
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation and legal writing skills;
  • Proactively enhance technical expertise by attending external training and reading current legal materials;
  • Strong relationship building skills, global business understanding and knowledge of current business practices and trends to understand issues and perspectives of various countries and cultures required;
  • An ability to balance speed with quality in achieving goals and an ability to simplify systems and processes to eliminate unnecessary work;
  • Experience with marketing and false advertising litigation, general commercial litigation, and/or class action litigation a plus.
