Job Title:  Industrial Design Manager - Packaging Innovation

This role is the lead Industrial Designer within the cross-discipline Global Packaging Innovation team, which is charged with the creation of breakthrough packaging and dispensing systems. It is part of the Global Design & Packaging function within Colgate-Palmolive’s Global Technology organization.  

The Industrial Design Manager will be responsible for developing human centric packaging and product experiences across categories that are user desirable, technically feasible, business viable, and sustainable. Creatively apply empathy and the design thinking process to understand and reframe opportunities, generate options and develop selected solutions.  
Support innovation efforts by applying knowledge of user research, all aspects of 2D and 3D development, along with understanding of Business and Supply Chain requirements.  Identify suitable technologies and develop projects through proof-of-principle.  Contribute and shape strategy with team members while leading some initiatives independently.  
Seamlessly collaborate within cross-functional teams including packaging engineering, brand design, marketing, R&D, and supply chain while also being comfortable tapping into Colgate-Palmolive’s network of global technical subject matter experts.


Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of advanced packaging solutions to support Colgate-Palmolive’s cross category innovation for growth initiatives, as a member of the cross-discipline packaging innovation team. 
  • Seek out and apply relevant consumer insights & technology trends into design development
  • Explore & identify new technologies and approaches to meet consumer experience and project needs. Understand how design, material, & technical choices intersect
  • Leverage sketching, mock-ups & rapid prototyping, to drive fast ‘test-and-learn.’  Drive iterative development and be able to quickly adapt to new learnings.  
  • Participate in and contribute to user research and synthesis. 
  • Partner tightly with the Packaging, Marketing, Design, Supply Chain, & external innovation partners to deliver a fast paced stream of innovative packaging and product innovation to market. 




  • Strong sense of curiosity and experimentation which can be coalesced into strategy and action.
  • Ability to translate deep consumer insights and cultural trends into meaningful solutions that meet key business objectives and which are desirable, feasible, & viable. 
  • Able to improvise and convert a new package design idea into workable prototypes which allow internal & external stakeholders to understand and evaluate a concept. 
  • Able to articulate complex concepts simply and effectively. 
  • Highly collaborative cross functionally. 
  • Builds and leverages external partnerships to cultivate new solutions and is able to quickly incorporate into concepts. 
  • Proficiency in CAD/Solidworks (or similar), sketching, & rendering.
  • Comfort in Adobe 2D Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of common packaging materials such as plastic and fiberboard. Allows & glass to a lower extent.
  • Awareness and experience with a range of digital communication/visualization methods and technologies.


Experience & Education


  • Bachelors or Masters in Industrial Design or a related field
  • 7yrs experience in consumer goods, cosmetic/beauty, and/or devices with 3yrs experience Packaging development
