Job Summary:

The GTC center Micro Lab Supervisor is responsible for implementing microbiology challenge tests that ensure all production meets the requirements of internal microbiological quality standards. Specifically, the Micro Lab Coordinator is responsible for Micro laboratory operations, assuring that the testing is done in conformance to Colgate Palmolive standards and guidelines.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Implement the microbiological sampling and testing program for water, raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), environmental samples & finished products at the facility. This plan must be based on QS 023.
  • Ensure all testing is performed according to corporate methods and policy and adhere to good microbiological practices. This includes the set up and administration of a laboratory quality assurance system that covers method and material qualification as well as equipment IQ/OQ/PQ, calibration & maintenance.
  • Understand and use basic laboratory safety equipment and instructions, precautions in handling and disposing of biological materials, in accordance with local environmental regulations.
  • Ensure Data Integrity of the lab that the reporting of data and maintenance of records is documented. Also, that the interpretation of the data is correct and that the results are effectively communicated to appropriate individuals, including management.
  • Train & develop the laboratory staff using the principles of Coaching & Feedback as well as the Competency Development Map for Microbiology.
  • Participate in appropriate internal audits and external audits (contract manufacturers & labs, suppliers, etc.) Function as part of the Plant GMP & Quality Team.
  • Interface with Global & Divisional Quality/Microbiology teams to provide input on programs, procedures and methods, and receive guidance & support on implementation of programs.
  • Additional responsibilities, as required

The Individual: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related biological science. Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Must include significant course work in Microbiology (at least four courses).


  • At least six to eight years of industrial experience (Personal Care, Pharmaceutical, Food, Environmental).This experience should include working in a R&D lab with exposure to microbiology challenge tests for new product development.
  • Team management experience - required

  • Engages Site, Division and Manufacturing and Technology Management as necessary to provide appropriate leadership and resources to ensure full conformance to the Quality and Micro Control Standards.
  • Creates and nurtures practical networks (with Supply Chain, Technology, Procurement,Legal & Regulatory departments) that foster teamwork and empowerment to strategically manage micro requirements
  • Provides direction for improving microbiological control in the microbiology laboratory and the entire site facility
  • Communicates information clearly, simply and in a timely manner. Good written and spoken English required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply continuous improvement tools to affect positive change (MSI, CPM, etc.)
  • Understands the linkages and interdependencies between and among supply chain and demand chain KPIs.
