Role Summary

As the Enterprise Apps & AI Lead on the Enterprise Data Applications team, you will lead the Full Stack Developers and Solution Architects who design, build, and operate our business-facing web, AI-powered, and simulation applications, backend architectures, and advanced analytics systems supporting our Finance, Supply Chain, Global Technology (R&D), Sustainability, and Master Data domains. You will set the technical direction for a growing portfolio of applications — including Dashlab, Dashpet, DashAI, Connected Compliance, Pricing Condition Workflows, Toothpaste Capacity Unlock, Sourcing AI, and other AI-enabled apps (including support for Union ML initiatives) — and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and user-centric solutions that align with our global roadmap.

This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people leadership. You will guide the team on architecture and delivery, tie complex business processes to robust end-to-end designs using test-driven methodology, and raise the bar for engineering quality across frontend, backend, AI, and DevOps. Prior domain or application knowledge is not required — we expect you to come up to speed on our applications quickly — but deep, current expertise in our technical stack is a must. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, self-motivated technologist who can lead by influence, mentor senior engineers and architects, and consider security, performance, cost, and user experience implications in every design decision.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of Full Stack Developers and Solution Architects delivering web, AI-enabled, and simulation applications for our Finance, Supply Chain, Global Technology (R&D), Sustainability, and Master Data domains.

  • Own the technical roadmap for a broad portfolio of enterprise applications — including Dashlab, Dashpet, DashAI, Connected Compliance, Pricing Condition Workflows, Toothpaste Capacity Unlock, Sourcing AI, and other AI apps (including support for Union AI initiatives) — and partner with internal teams and external partners on architecture, integrations, and delivery

  • Partner with senior business stakeholders across all supported domains to translate strategic priorities into engineering plans that ship reliably

  • Set and enforce engineering standards for architecture, code quality, security, DevOps, testing, and observability across all owned applications

  • Drive continuous improvement in test coverage, code quality, performance, and platform reliability across every code base the team owns

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in critical design reviews, code reviews, incident response, and re-architecture initiatives — especially for AI/LLM-powered features

  • Complies with all policies and standards

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams (Full Stack Developers, Solution Architects) delivering business-facing applications at enterprise scale

  • 5+ years of experience in backend development using Python, with demonstrated expertise in Django or Django REST Framework

  • 3+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure

  • 3+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience delivering AI-enabled applications in production, including working with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG patterns, vector databases, and modern orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, or similar)

  • In-depth knowledge of core web technologies, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing user interfaces using reactive JavaScript frameworks such as React

  • Experience across the full product lifecycle, from design and development through deployment and maintenance

  • Proven ability to apply test-driven development practices to complex engineering challenges

  • Knowledge of and experience applying security best practices and design patterns, as well as familiarity with static and dynamic application security and code analysis tools

  • Experience working on Agile/Scrum development teams

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across application, data, and infrastructure layers

  • Experience productionizing AI/ML systems at scale, including MLOps, model deployment, observability, and cost management.

  • Experience with LLMOps, agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, or similar), and integrating enterprise data catalogs into AI applications.

  • Experience leading distributed engineering teams across multiple concurrent product streams and shaping engineering culture at scale.

  • Experience with enterprise integration patterns (SAP/ERP data, event-driven architectures, secure API design) in large, regulated organizations.
