The role

This leadership role will require the ideal candidate to demonstrate their deep experience of digital data, working in close partnership with data engineering, data governance and data domain owners to craft and implement a scalable data architecture for all digital marketing and e-commerce data domains within Colgate.

Our teams work on the latest data technologies in the Cloud space including BigQuery, Apache Airflow, Snowflake, Apache Spark, Kubernetes and more.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main liaison between business, engineering and data governance teams, to conceptualize and then implement architectural design patterns that satisfy technical and functional requirements around all of our digital marketing and eCommerce data

  • Partner with the Data Governance Lead to support the design & implementation of data governance framework/ operating model across the key priority markets, with a specific focus on all digital data within the organization. Such data domains include (but not limited to) Search, Media, eComm & CRM.

  • Partner with the Category/ Product Leads within the Global Digital Applications Team to align their domain-specific architectural requirements into a common architectural framework.

  • Define the conceptual, logical and physical data models needed for sophisticated data use-cases across marketing and e-commerce data domains.

  • Define and build the ETL/ELT and data pipelines to enable faster, better, data-informed decision-making within the business

  • Implement solutions to enable a stable architecture for capturing robust data sets

  • Responsible for the maintenance, improvement, cleaning, and manipulation of data in the data platform and analytics databases.

  • Work with data analytics teams, data scientists, and software engineers in order to understand and aid in the implementation of database requirements, analyze performance, and fix any issues

  • Develop and present solutions and recommendations to business and technology teams

  • Share a point of view with other technology team members, education and training to resolve issues and remove project barriers

  • Act as an agent of change to help drive data standard methodologies and driving the concept of data as an asset


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science or related field

  • 3+ years of experience with general purpose language (Python, Java Script)

  • 5+ years using SQL and/or VBA experience

  • 7+ years working with databases and data structures in either on-premise or cloud-based environments (GCP, AWS or Azure)

  • Experience leading data engineering teams

  • Experience with data modeling / data management tools (e.g. sqlDBM, Lucidchart, MySQL Workbench, )

  • A solid understanding of at least one of the following digital marketing data domains like Search (eg. Google Analytics, Google Search Console), Media (eg. Facebook) , CRM (eg Salesforce Marketing Cloud)

  • Experience working with consumer data (emails, IDs, names)

  • Proficiency with Google Suite (sheets, slides, docs) and/or Microsoft Office tools

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong analytical and time management skills


Preferred Requirements

  • Currently working in a role that builds data models geared around digital data domains

  • Any knowledge or recent implementations of ‘Data-Mesh’’ or ‘Microservice' based architectures

  • Working with data structures using Snowflake

  • Data compliance (GDPR, CCPA) experience

  • Proficiency with at least one language (Python, Java Script)

  • Proficiency using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Data Studio or DOMO
