JOB TITLE: Assistant Chief Patent Counsel- OC, PC, HC and Hill’s

The role, which reports to the VP, Senior Associate General Counsel- Technology, Regulatory & External Innovation and manages a team of 1 Patent Attorney and 3 Patent Agents, as well as outside counsel.  He/she will be responsible for all chemical-related patent matters in all CP categories including Oral Care, Home Care, Personal Care and Hill's. The position is based in our Piscataway, NJ facility

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar majors.
• JD degree and admitted to the bar of at least one state
• Registered Patent Attorney with USPTO
• 10+ years professional experience as a practicing patent attorney (private practice and in house)
•  Experience managing a large global patent portfolio, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications
•  Excellent client counseling skills are required, including strong oral communication and presentation skills
•  Experience in rendering patentability, invalidity and freedom to operate opinions
•  Experience in due diligence activities and agreement drafting/negotiation
•  Exposure to patent litigation
•  People management experience, as well as managing outside counsel
•  Superior organization and project management skills
•  Strong communication skills with innovators, technologists, and business and legal leaders
•  Strong interpersonal skills; a team player able to establish and build partnerships across all levels of the legal, business, and R&D teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• In-house CPG  experience 
• Meticulous attention to detail

Salary Range $222,000 - $248,000

Pay is based on several non discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location. In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
