Quality Systems Specialist

The role of a Quality Systems Specialist is to execute strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of the Quality Department’s goals. Specifically, the role will assist in coordinating daily operational functions in the areas of food safety and quality by focusing on action closures.  This role will require a focus on continuous improvement processes and implementation of best practices to ensure that the needs of the customer and the consumer are achieved on an on-going basis.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee SAP Non Conformance monitoring system (SAP notification creation, assignment, and forward actions plans).
  • Assist in identifying quality gaps which need correction or improvement for key Quality systems including but not limited to Product Conformance, Raw Material & Product Traceability, Receiving, Storage, & Handling, Non-Conformance SAP system, and Internal / External Audits.
  • Generate as directed metrics for Quality KPIs for the site to track plant performance such as: product holds, customer complaints, non-conformances, analytical conformance, raw material / finished product.
  • Maintains proficiency in SAP for consumption transactions, maintaining traceability of finished product, raw material, and packaging material at Hill’s facility and to the distribution system as allowed.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of site quarantine area for all quality / food safety holds of finished product / raw material. Includes on-site inspection of storage trailers, maintaining reconciliation documentation and files, and possible inspection and verification of destruction of material at Hill’s site or when performed at 3rd party location.
  • Performs tasks required during a real or simulated (mock recall) product recall. This includes but not limited to SAP functions, paperwork retrieval, communication with corporate, and the distribution centers.
  • Establishes a cross-functional partnership with other departments and functional areas to provide support for ensuring the achievement of the Quality department’s goals.
  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements.

 

Basic qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • 1+ year practical working knowledge of GMP’s 
  • 1+ year technical writing experience
  • 1+ year practical working knowledge of business process systems such as: Microsoft or Google Applications (Google Sheets, Form, Docs, and Slides)
  • Ability to provide support on all shifts, including nights and weekends as needed

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or relevant technical areas of:  Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology
  • 1+ year practical working experience in a quality department in a food manufacturing environment. 
  • Previous auditing experience working with American Institute of Baking (AIB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), & Safe Quality Food (SQF) 
  • FSPCA Preventive Controls for Animal Food Certification (PCQI), knowledge of HACCP & SPC
  • Previous SAP experience

 

Expected Areas of Skills

  • Advanced computer application experience in SAP, OPERA, Microsoft Word / Excel, & MES, Google business processes
  • In-depth knowledge of cGMPs, Quality Standards, FSMA Preventive Controls, HACCP, & SQF
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop and express ideas
  • Documentation skills
     


 


 


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $60,000.00 - $82,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually
  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
