Purpose of Role

The role functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities and provide support to manufacturing operations team. This role will perform and be fully trained in the areas of Bulk Unloading (receiving), Mill Room (batching), Meat Room, all areas of Packaging, Forklift/Warehouse, Quality and Sanitation. This role will cover vacation, sick time, and any other need for coverage that may arise on or across multiple teams. Flex Operators must ensure efficiency, operational conformance, product quality and continuous improvement.  Flex Operators must have the skill set to train and/or perform the tasks of other associates in the area as needed. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support site objectives.

Principal Accountabilities

Fully trained in all areas listed above and ability to fulfill all duties in the absence of the operator. Properly operate the dryers, mixer, meat room, receiving and coating application system and other related. Perform quality checks and testing. Perform all areas of receiving, unloading and testing of ingredients and packaging. 

  • Perform all shift support documentation in a quality manner.

  • Maintain proper GMP's for site

  • Understand production schedules, computer systems, work instructions and inventory procedures.

  • Monitor activities on production lines and reporting downtime.

  • Practice the Lock-Out Tag-Out program when doing cleaning, maintenance and/or repair

  • Maintains accurate records of QC checks, production numbers or waste performance

  • Performs QC tasks such as testing, metal checks, inspection of date codes, item numbers, dump logs, etc.

  • Ensure that finished product meets all quality standards and run documentation completed

  • Ensure that finished product is properly formed and coated

  • Isolation, segregation and re-evaluation of materials deems to be non-compliant with regard to established

Safety of all employees and equipment

  • Keep all equipment in a safe operating condition

  • Practice safety Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures

  • Keep area in a clean and neat manner

  • Be aware of and follow all plant safety rules and PPE. (Wear bump hats, ear protection, no rings, etc.).

  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals

  • Knowledge of local, federal, and industry regulations with regards to: Food Safety (GMP, HACCP), Food Quality (Product and Process)

  • Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices and SPC

  • Must be forklift certified or the ability to certify

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent education

  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

  • Working knowledge of Safety, Quality and Material Management Systems and procedures

  • Ability to read and understand the daily production run schedule, and execute to that plan

  • Ability to communicate to managers and team members any production, quality/food safety or other business critical information vital to operations and customer service

  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

  • Successful completion of a substance screening and background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines

  • 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline

  • Working Knowledge of food safety, GMP, GHOP, HACCP, SPC

  • Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email

  • Knowledge of inventory control principles

  • Ability to operate a forklift/OSHA certification

  • Experience with JD Edwards


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $16.58 - $19.50 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
