Description:

The Senior Director, Executive Compensation supports the overall strategy, design, and implementation of all executive compensation programs, including base pay, short-term incentive programs, equity grants, long-term incentive structures and executive benefit programs.  This position is also responsible for the design of Board of Directors compensation plans and external filing support and for developing executive salary structure and job pricing for all executive roles.  The role works closely with HR Leadership, Executives and the extended Global Total Reward team, as well as a variety of internal and external stakeholders. 

To fulfill the strategic and operational mandate for this role, the candidate must excel at recruiting, developing and leading a high performing, engaged team & increasing the bench strength of talent.  They will demonstrate a growth mindset that keeps the organization on the cutting edge.

 Specific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Build strategic executive compensation programs to support the delivery of strong  business results and which rewards exceptional performance;

  • Lead, coach and mentor the Executive Compensation team and manage external partner/consultant relationships;

  • Acts as business partner to HR and executive leadership by providing guidance on executive compensation programs and policies;

  • Provide  technical expertise on executive compensation policies and procedures, strategy, compliance and design;

  • Lead the proxy submission annual process, liaising with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Legal, ISS, Glass Lewis & Fred Cook);

  • Partner with the Board’s Independent Compensation Consultant to review and perform annual assessment of CEO/NEO compensation;

  • Develop materials for presentations to the CEO, CHRO, the senior team and the Compensation Committee / Supervisory Board of Directors;

  • Develop education and communications strategies to build understanding of the programs by HR business partners, executive leadership and plan participants;

  • Monitor external market, shareholder activists and institutional investors for developments on governance and regulatory trends that impact design and disclosure rules of executive remuneration programs;

  • Craft, lead and participate in transformation efforts to ensure continuous improvement and improved effectiveness of our HR/TR plans & programs;

  • Be a thought leader, influencer and collaborator on our Human Capital Strategy to motivate and drive sustainable growth.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Human Resources, Management or other related discipline;

  • 10+ years of functional experience including planning, designing and developing strategic executive compensation programs;

  • Total Rewards leadership in an organization with a large, distributed workforce;

  • C-suite senior executive management experience with a track record of building trusted, impactful relationships with business leaders and key stakeholders; 

  • Superior executive presence with the ability and credibility to present ideas and recommendations at all levels within the organization ; 

  • Ability to move beyond strategy to practical implementation activities and plans, with a demonstrated capability to establish processes, systems and tools;

  • Analytical/ Decision Making ability to systematically break down complex problems into component parts and clearly explain the ramifications;

  • Ability to work independently and strategically in a fast-paced environment;

  • Requires attention to detail, strong analytical and verbal communication skills, and high level of integrity in creating and delivering high quality work; 

  • Collaborative, team player who is capable of communicating with individuals at all levels of the organization and maintaining professional composure;  

  • People management experience with ability to motivate the team, delegate effectively and manage performance;

  • Demonstrated strength in customer service, particularly initiative and the ability to anticipate needs and issues;

  • An entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries; 

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations;

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and discretion.

 

 

 


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $220,000.00 - $260,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements
  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually
  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually
  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
