It is an exciting time to be part of Colgate-Palmolive's Global Legal Team!  Colgate-Palmolive is currently recruiting a qualified candidate for the position of Chief Data Privacy Counsel.  In this position, you will assist the Chief Compliance Counsel and other members of the team with a variety of matters, with a primary focus on the Company’s Global Data Privacy Compliance Program (“Program”).  In this position, you will be involved with the following areas:


Position Overview:


  • Review, update and enhance a Global Data Privacy Compliance Program (“Program”).  This includes, among other things: 
    • Developing, updating, and managing relevant policies and procedures including the Company’s Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, appropriate portions of the Code of Conduct and the Global Business Practices Guidelines, and relevant other policies related to the processing of data;
    • Developing training materials and resource materials for employees and, as appropriate, relevant third parties;
    • Partnering with Global Information Technology on issues related to data management including collection, classification, and storage;
    • Partnering with Global Information Security in responding to data incidents, including investigating and remediating incidents, and, as appropriate, managing breach notifications, and advising on the Data Security Incident Response Plan;
    • Ensuring compliance with applicable privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, etc., and laws related to cross-border data transfers;
    • Partnering with Corporate Audit to update and enhance auditing and accountability processes to measure risk and to ensure compliance with the Program.
  • Provide counsel to the Global Legal Organization (“GLO”), senior management and other business functions on all data privacy issues, including but not limited to:
    • Privacy implications for new business models (e.g., COPPA, HIPAA, CAN-SPAM, cookie laws, etc.);
    • Issues related to privacy due diligence in M&A transactions;  
    • Contractual issues related to privacy, including the implementation of the Data Privacy and Security Exhibit;

    • Changes to privacy laws or market practices that impact the Company;

    • Partnering with business stakeholders to process properly personal data of employees, consumers, vendors, customers, and other third parties (including 1P, 2P and 3P data).

  • Present regularly to senior management on the status of, and updates to, the Program, and topical issues related to privacy;
  • Respond to governmental- and regulatory-related inquiries and investigations related to data privacy, including data incidents and, as appropriate, breach notification.


Position Requirements:


  • Undergraduate and JD degrees required; NY or NJ state Bar Admission required;
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' legal experience in a law firm or in-house with a focus on privacy, cybersecurity, marketing, digital media issues and a strong technical background on such issues;
  • Experience in advising on international privacy issues;

  • Strong analytical, communication and legal writing skills;

  • Proactively enhance technical expertise by attending external training and reading current legal materials;

  • Knowledge of consumer products business a plus.




Salary Range:  $172,000 - $253,050

Pay is based on several non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location.  In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
