We are looking for a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to join our team! This position is part of the Global Design & Packaging Organization supporting the North America Oral Care Category. This position is responsible for the development and engineering of new, innovative packaging solutions, collaboratively with Global and Division Marketing, Supply Chain and Manufacturing. This role will also have broad responsibilities supporting manufacturing operation to drive continuous improvements, cost savings, and sustainability goals. Additionally, this role will drive technical transfer from Packaging Engineering to Operations.

 

 

What you will do

  • Support the conceptualization, initiation, development and implementation of new and improved packages and processes including: design generation, engineering specifications, mold and machinery qualification, functionality and quality testing, and technology transfer.

  • Drive implementation and support for new product launches, cost savings & operations efficiency initiatives, and quality investigations

  • Responsible for Technology Transfer from Package Engineering to Manufacturing Operations to ensure new packaging systems perform as designed and meet operational targets

  • Coordinate line trials to ensure package performance for manufacturing. Attend component and manufacturing startups as needed to ensure proper execution of design, function, and manufacturability.

  • Understand and interpret package testing procedures and results to support the effective design, qualification, validation, and implementation of new package systems and packaging technology while providing explanations and forward actions appropriate to project team.

  • Partner with plant engineering to ensure that packaging equipment/material system specifications, functionality and design are appropriate for use.

  • Modify the design of packaging systems and packaging components, ensuring defined needs for brand equity aesthetics, consumer acceptance, manufacturing capability, quality and cost are met from the program brief through design, engineering and commercialization

  • Responsible for aspects of project management: project planning, capital expenditure management, and technology transfer associated with projects. Manage flow of information, and communicate project timelines, costs, and associated risks.

  • Create cost and savings estimates, tooling/package qualification plans, technology transfer documentation (Design History Files) and final package component specifications, Bills of Materials, Manufacturing Specifications, case/cube information

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all policies and standards

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Package Engineering/Technology/Science or in related engineering field (eg: Chemical Engineering)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills

  • Fundamental understanding of printing and decoration techniques for plastics, labels, and paperboard materials

  • Fundamental packaging knowledge of laminate tubes, PET bottles, paperboard folding cartons, and corrugated shippers

  • Knowledge of packaging processes such as bottle molding, injection molding, and filling lines

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of package development/engineering experience, preferably in oral care industry

  • Experience using SAP or other ERP software and/or plant-related computer systems

  • Experience with Cape/Tops, Solidworks, and Illustrator

  • Familiar with Project Teams and Project Management skills

  • Familiar with statistical and predictive engineering tools (eg.: Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA))

  • Innovation experience partnering with design and marketing
