The Operations Manager is responsible for overall management of production of either the TP or MW/COP Operation within the Morristown, TN facility. Successful management of production areas will be accomplished through active involvement and development of work teams, appropriate coaching and feedback, effective resource utilization and visible team leadership.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts in regards to processes that drive business performance in key performance indicators for the Morristown facility (e.g. asset utilization, operational efficiency) while meeting quality, GMP, FDA and safety performance expectations 
  • Drive improvement of team performance and behaviors in line with the advanced team development model, including effective team communications, personal and team accountability, and other competencies within Colgate's "Managing with Respect" expectations 
  • Further and/or develop positive relationships with vendors, suppliers, Colgate Marketing, Sales, Engineering and R&D work teams to improve equipment performance and/or quality of operating supplies/services 
  • Demonstrate active support for new formulations, packaging launches, etc. within the Colgate Oral Care category 
  • Effectively take care of employee relations and performance management issues, in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Provide leadership vital for the development of salaried and non-exempt salaried employees in an effort to promote a well-trained, highly motivated workforce. 
  • Support EOHS initiatives which will drive the TRR and LWD rates. 
  • Support the Quality initiatives that will support effective process of new product start-up; timely completions of biannual SOP review with teams; and Quality audit preparation initiatives. 
  • Implement the standards of FP&R within the teams, with focused emphasis in regards to People Capability, Visual Workplace, Autonomous Maintenance and Continuous Improvement. 
  • Assist the plant to achieve Fund-the Growth Savings by decreasing total labor costs and active participation in the plant FTG ideation session. 
  • Improves factory cash flow by effectively managing operating expenses, capital expenditures and inventory.
  • Develops and executes strategies to consistently manufacture and ensure the quality of finished goods. 
  • Develops a team-based organization to drive performance.
  • Motivates the workforce to achieve business objectives.
  • Understands technical processes in the factory. 
  • Evaluates and communicates equipment capabilities and constraints. 
  • Knows the handling and storage requirements of raw materials, finished goods, and waste streams. 
  • Ensures that equipment and processes are capable of meeting production schedules, customer demands, and Quality and Microbiology targets. 
  • Communicates the need for and impact of Quality, Microbiology and EOHS standards while ensuring implementation. 
  • Promotes safety awareness and models safe behavior. 
  • Applies budgeting processes to develop site capital and expense budgets, and to execute cost-control programs. 
  • Improves leading operating expenses, capital expenditures and inventory. 
  • Ensures fast and detailed implementation of new product bundles. Uses SAP data to set the production plan and schedule requirements. 
  • Executes strategies that deal optimally with operating issues related to labor relations. 
  • Develops contingency plans and strategies for any business interruption. 
  • Sees oneself as a business team member rather than as an individual in a Supply Chain function. 
  • Focuses on the business with a Supply Chain perspective, seeing the function as n integral component of the whole business. 
  • Networks with Supply Chain and business partners to drive joint identification and alignment of goals. 
  • Collaborates with partners to optimize customer service, distribution and promotional activities. 
  • Partners with Marketing and Technology to drive speed to market. Understands the key issues the trade faces and implications for the Supply Chain. 
  • Uses supplier knowledge to meet the needs of consumers and the trade. 
  • Communicates effectively with leadership to transfer information. Seeks out internal and external best practices. Facilitates the management of change in processes, the organization and the culture. 
  • Develops and fosters partnership to drive business results.

Basic Required Qualifications: 


  • BS/BA Degree 


Preferred Qualifications: 


  • 8+ years production / operation management experience, as well as project or process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Experience within or validated understanding of Quality function within a manufacturing environment. 
  • Validated strong written and verbal communications skills, as well as the mentor and feedback skills required in a high performance work systems environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and management in ambiguous situations.
  • Work experience in a regulated industry (i.e. FDA, EPA, OSHA) 
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) or ISO 9000 
  • At least 5+ years of experience using SAP or other plant related computer systems
  • MBA
