Our company invites applications for the position of Quality Chemist for our Morristown, TN. The Chemist is responsible for performing physical and chemical testing in support of the site Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program. The lab operates 24 hours per day, 5-7 days per week. This position may be on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform physical and chemical testing of raw material, packaging material, in-process and finished product in accordance with standard procedures. Approves materials and product based on test results.
  • Collect and analyzes test data to identify root cause , draw conclusions and recommend actions
  • Participate in failure investigations to identify root cause and recommend corrective and preventive actions
  • Acquire basic knowledge of plant floor operations and equipment
  • Apply appropriate methodologies and data interpretation techniques to assist in overcoming technical difficulties and promote continuous improvement.
  • Maintain the laboratory quality assurance systems to assure validity of data
  • Perform or assists vendor in the installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ) of laboratory instruments and equipment. Conducts lab verification of instruments
  • Maintain accurate, up to date and concise laboratory notebooks and records.
  • Use laboratory safety equipment and understand precautions in handling reagents and disposal of chemical waste according with local environmental regulations.
  • Troubleshoot basic instrument problems.
  • Develop in depth knowledge of how to operate analytical instruments and other standard laboratory equipment relevant to job responsibilities.
  • Understand and precisely follow written lab procedures, global methods, local methods and published standard or compendia sources.
  • Develop in depth knowledge of how to calibrate and maintain analytical instruments and the use of analytical reference standards relevant to job description
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements relevant to job responsibilities.
  • Prepare positive release documentation including analytical lab reports and certificates of analysis.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field
  • A minimum of 0-6 months experience in an Analytical lab, or pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic or consumer products industries
  • Demonstrated competency in laboratory skills training in chemistry
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • The manufacturing site operates 5 days a week (With occasional 7 days) and requires flexibility to work weekend shifts as part of the normal five day work week required

  • Strong multitasking skills in a fast paced, changing environment
