Controls Technician - Night Shift

 

The primary accountabilities of the role include attaining high equipment reliability and uptime, safety compliance, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team. The Controls Technician works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with others in the same production unit as well as other production units and support functions.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Leads fixing of automated systems on a timely basis until successful resolution.

  • Support solving efforts of production problems including major and minor maintenance of automated and non-automated equipment.

  • Recommends, decides and implements actions under daily operation pressure to drive production lines performance.

  • Provides technical support and execution on capital projects.

  • To be the first point of contact for control systems malfunction on production lines.

  • Undertakes daily reports on major activities performed during shift for problem tracking resolution purposes.

  • Develops and delivers training for operations team and co-workers.

  • Delivers against engineering metrics for the controls systems group.

  • Facilitates communication and knowledge transfer between multi-functional teams to support common goal achievement. .

  • Works with Control Systems Engineer to establish, review, improve and implement plant control system standards.

  • Proactively research solutions to technical issues and implement solutions.

  • Use data analysis to drive root cause analysis and recommend/implement corrective actions.

  • Participates in new equipment installation, validation and start up processes

  • Supports Failure Investigations in respective areas.

  • Highlights potential maintenance issues and supports corrective action including parts requisitioning and maintenance planning.

  • Optimize current Control and automation system and drive continuous improvement in efficiency, quality, safety and energy.

  • Accurately and fully finishes the regulatory and compliance related documentation and procedures; highlights variances

  • Stays abreast of teams’ production performance via visual, written and verbal communications

  • Participates in regular review of team production performance and uses information to implement continuous improvement.

  • Provides status of maintenance activity for line/area; recommends machine modifications

  • Participates in structured group or team activities related to line/area performance improvement e.g. autonomous maintenance, problem solving etc.

  • Seeks and understands production scheduling and demands. Prioritizes maintenance activities that support and facilitates these schedules and demands.

  • Seeks and applies Continuous Improvement tools and techniques to achieve team goals e.g. Quality Systems, Problem Solving tools, Maintenance

  • Follows all Environmental, Occupational, Health and Safety requirements

  • Follows all Quality, Good Manufacturing Practices and Micro Cleaning & Sanitization Guidelines and standards

  • Understand the needs of both internal and external customers.

  • Maintains work area to required housekeeping standards. Performs housekeeping activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement

  • Other job functions that may be assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED Certification / Technical Certification

  • Proficiency to fix, edit and modify programs for Allen Bradley controllers and servo drives

  • Capability to fix and resolve problems with SCADA Systems and batching processes

  • Knowledge of industrial automation networks

  • Capability to analyse and replace automation hardware devices(VFD, SMS, PLC, IO cards, instruments)

  • Practical skills in working with electrical schematic drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals

  • Capability to analyze process flow to identify issues.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and rotating 12-hour shifts

  • Requires climbing, bending, kneeling and the ability to lift 50 pounds and the availability to remain on-call for nights and weekend coverage.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical Degree or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years maintenance work experience in a manufacturing, production or operation environment

  • Experience working with food safety regulated environments (AIB, FDA, USDA, cGMP)

  • Experience with Wonderware, Control Logix, SERCOS, ControlNet specific systems


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $54,400.00 - $82,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
