Job Purpose:
The Retail Category Development Manager (RCD) Germany develops insight-based shopper category growth stories for our different Retail Environments and Strategic Key Customers in Germany. The RCD Manager takes the lead in (strategic) category growth with a focus on the Oral Care category both for the internal organization as external (customers). As an expert, the RCD manager supports and coaches colleagues to place customer growth thinking / category management thinking as strongly as possible in the organization. The RCD Manager works in multidisciplinary category teams (including Marketing, Customer Development) and has frequent contacts with RCD colleagues in the other regional and European offices. The RCD manager is regularly visiting customers.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Achieving our CP objectives by development and implementation of Category growth solutions and projects that will drive category growth for our strategic customers in our strategic categories (Oral Care focus). Monitoring of implemented projects against objectives
  • Develop and deliver shelf and assortment solutions (eg. shelf recommendations) for our customers promoting cross-functional collaboration to address retailer’s category opportunities
  • Analysis of data (including financial, shopper and customer data) and carrying out market observations (instore and online)  to support development of category growth opportunities
  • Analysis of the current business situation, identification of growth potential and development of effective retail/category strategies. Monitoring of implemented measures and development of optimization plans
  • Actively sharing category knowledge and driving Retail category focus within the full commercial organization. Supporting and advising internal departments on category management issues and opportunities
  • Managing RCD budget for the customers/projects managed and advice Insights team on market research needs and gaps

 

Key Skills, Competencies & Qualifications:

  • College or University degree: a proven track record of performance with at least 3 years of work experience in Category Management / Development, Trade Marketing,  RE Management, Customer Development, and / or Consulting, preferably in Consumer Goods & Healthcare Goods and / or Retail
  • Commercial knowledge: strong understanding of the German retail landscape. Fluent Business German and English skills are required
  • Data analytics: strong analytical skills to evaluate and digest complex business processes, identify insights and opportunities and then capitalize and execute on learnings. Experience in using the Google Suite solutions and MS Office
  • Storytelling and simplification: able to convince internal and external stakeholders with convincing growth stories; able to make complex situations and topics  simply understandable
  • Interpersonal & collaboration skills: enjoys teamwork; works within the Consumer Experience team, broader commercial teams plus counterparts in other Hubs and in Divisional teams to build strong trusted relationships internally/externally to drive action and progress
  • Effective execution: achieving results with speed & excellence, eliminating unnecessary work, driving simplicity and holding self-accountable results. Creates clear priorities
  • Innovative thinker: champions new initiatives and experimentation. Gains buy-in & implements new ideas quickly & effectively. Adopts a flexible approach to problem solving and taking risks and quickly learn
