Position Role

 

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the effective operation, repairs and changeovers of production equipment. Works with others to achieve factory business objectives of safety, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leads major and minor maintenance of automated and non-automated equipment (making, finishing, utilities & outside services) through Mechanical engineering requirements and activities in order to fully support the manufacturing of Colgate Palmolive Products

  • Operates and performs changeovers of automated and non-automated equipment (making, finishing, utilities) through Mechanical engineering requirements and activities in order to fully support the manufacturing of Colgate Palmolive Products

  • Confirms in-house availability of tools, change and spare parts required to keep production running. 

  • Coordinates with upstream and downstream processes by working with others in planning, warehouse, receiving and vendor representatives on maintenance related requirements.

  • Investigate and Identify detailed scope of work for Maintenance related tasks, whilst defining clear and direct expectations with Maintenance Team and Vendors.

  • Work closely with Indirect Procurement Team to ensure proper align,ment on the source goods and services according to best value and c 

  • Overseeing that tools, change parts and spare parts are their appropriate locations and in good working order to support manufacturing requirements. 

  • Troubleshoots, performs major and minor repairs as required to ensure ongoing production.

  • Coordinate and support  the preventative maintenance schedule by ensuring that requirements are identified and resources are available to complete the scope in order to improve equipment reliability and life span.  

  • Undertakes daily reporting and updates of information systems (SAP, Opera) including documentation of maintenance activities performed on equipment (Running Checks, RCA’s etc.)

  • Highlights potential maintenance issues and takes corrective action including parts requisitioning and maintenance planning.

  • Fabricates simple machine parts using the required shop equipment such as lathe, drill press, milling machine and others.

  • Accurately and fully completes all regulatory and compliance-related documentation and procedures; highlights variances.

  • Stays abreast of teams’ production performance via visual, written and verbal communications.

  • Participates in regular review of team production performance and uses information to drive continuous improvement. Provides status of maintenance activity for line/area; recommends machine modifications.

  • Participates in structured group or team activities related to line/area performance improvement, e.g., autonomous maintenance, housekeeping, problem solving, etc. 

  • Seeks and understands production scheduling and demands.  Prioritizes maintenance activities that support and facilitate these schedules and demands.

  • Seeks and applies Continuous Improvement tools and techniques to achieve team goals, e.g., Quality Systems, FP&R, Problem-Solving tools.

  • Understand Key Plant KPI’s (AU, UPDT, AML, PM Adherence, etc) and support and drive initiatives to achieve targets.

  • Identify opportunities and solutions towards reducing material losses

  • Understands and adheres to EHS requirements. 

  • Understands and adheres to all Quality, GMP and  (C&S Guidelines) standards and guidelines.

  • Understands the needs of both internal and external customers. Internal customers include Production, Quality, Planning, Finance and Warehouse.  

  • Maintains work area to required housekeeping standards. Performs housekeeping activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement. 

  • Shares knowledge and develops maintenance skills in Technicians. Identifies new opportunities for transferring skills to Technicians. Actively participate in continuous learning opportunities.

Experiences/Educational Level/Skills Attributes Required

 

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

  • Minimum N6 Diploma in Engineering plus trade Test qualification.

  • Mechanical Engineering Diploma would be advantageous

 

LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE 

  • 5-7 years manufacturing or similar experience is preferred, with an emphasis in mechanics.
