The Microbiologist is responsible for product and raw materials testing, trouble shooting and implementation of the facility Micro Control Plan.


Responsibilities include:

Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, workin-process, and finished product for product approval and release.

Support development and implement plant-wide Microbiological Control Program

Support, maintain and utilize SPC system to drive continuous improvement, identify trends and draw conclusions.

Assist with product, equipment, and C&S validations.

Maintain lab equipment and calibrations.

Complete Failure Investigations and properly document Out of Specification results

Support implementation and role out of Global Quality Standards

Provide product release notification to Colgate distribution system and SAP transactions.

Provide support to facility to resolve nonconformance issues and identify corrective and preventative actions.

Approve raw materials shipments and ensure Raw Material Purchasing Specification is met on the CofA’s.

The position does require flexibility (sick, vacation coverage, etc) so as to best meet the facility’s needs and support projects.

Assists in Control Point Monitoring program at the site.

Communicates the MSI to the plant each month.

Train chemist, microbiologists, and other personnel in Micro-related techniques using QMICs and SOPs.

Provides operator C&S, Micro Awareness, Swabbing, and Aseptic Sampling training to technicians.

 

Required Qualifications

 B.S. in Microbiology or related Science.
 Experience with basic lab equipment such as pH, balances, etc. and microbiology methods
 Experience with general documentation practices and cGMP compliance with notebooks, data entry forms
with specific attention to details
 Experience with common microbiology lab instrumentation (i.e. autoclaves, air amplers, light microscope,
biohazard cabinets, and water purification system.)
 Familiar with quality systems such as failure investigations, Corrective and Preventive Actions, calibration,
change control, etc.
 Good computer skills (i.e. Google Suite, MS Word, MS Excel).
 Must understand basic lab safety, bio-hazard and chemical waste disposal practices
 Ability & Flexibility to work a rotational schedule to support a 24/7 plant facility operation
 Team Building/Relationship Building - Develops relationships with people throughout the facility and
demonstrate team work.
 Communication - Speaks and writes effectively, and keeps people up to date with information. Maintains lab
notebooks and testing documentation.

 

Preferred Qualifications
 2-5 years’ experience as a microbiologist in a manufacturing lab work environment
 Experience in an EPA regulated environment
 Working knowledge and practical experience with good laboratory practices in a microbiology lab
environment and competent with microbiology techniques such as Gram staining, isolation plating, media
preparation and microorganism identification methods.
 Practical experience in an industrial environment at a manufacturing site implementing cGMPs.
 Results Orientation - Displays a high energy level, and able to prioritize duties to get effective results.

 Ability to Make decisions and communicate effectively while under pressure
 Experience with SAP

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $43,900 - $66,700 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually
  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
