The Base Plant Area Leader is responsible for overall management of the manufacturing production areas. Successful management of an area(s) will be accomplished through active involvement and development of work teams, appropriate coaching and feedback, effective resource utilization and visible team leadership.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts in regards to processes that drive business performance in key performance indicators for the Cambridge facility (e.g. asset utilization, unplanned downtime) while meeting quality, GMP and EOH&S performance expectations.
  • Drive improvement of team performance and behaviors, including effective team communications, personal and team accountability, and other competencies within Colgate's "Managing with Respect" principles expectations.
  • Foster and/or develop productive partnerships with vendors, suppliers, Colgate Marketing, Sales, Engineering and R&D teams to enhance equipment performance and/or product quality.
  • Demonstrate active support for new formulations, and packaging launches.
  • Effectively deal with employee relations and performance management issues, in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Support EOHS initiatives which will drive the TRR and LWD rates.
  • Support the Quality initiatives that will drive improvement in non-conformances and micro, drive effective implementation of new products; on-time completions of bi-annual SOP review with the teams; and Quality audit preparation initiatives.
  • Implement the standards of FP&R within the teams, with focused emphasis in regards to People Capability, Visual Workplace, Autonomous Maintenance, Planned Maintenance and Continuous Improvement.
  • The Area Leader in the Liquid Making/Base Plant area is an integral part of the PSM Team (Process Safety Management Team) Area Leaders in all areas of the facility have responsibilities as follows.
  • Responsibilities include administering an annual review of the PSM procedures with the teams, as well as documenting Emergency Shutdown testing.
  • The Area Leader is responsible for training and onboarding new operator technicians and ensuring they are in compliance with site policy for working on or around covered processes.
  • The Area Leader in Liquid Making/Base Plant, and all other Area Leaders in the facility, should complete a PSM 100 workshop within one calendar year from hire date.
  • Assist the plant to achieve Fund-the Growth Savings by optimizing labor and maintenance costs as well as actively participate in the plant FTG ideation session.
  • Improve factory cash flow by effectively managing operating expenses, capital expenditures and inventory.
  • Ensures fast and flawless implementation of new product bundles.
  • Uses SAP data to set the production plan and schedule requirements.
  • Executes strategies that deal effectively with operating issues related to labor relations.
  • Develops contingency plans and strategies for any business interruption.
  • Develops and executes strategies to consistently manufacture and ensure the quality of finished goods.
  • Develops a team-based organization to drive business performance.
  • Motivates the workforce to achieve business objectives.
  • Understands technical processes in the factory.
  • Identifies and communicates equipment capabilities and constraints.
  • Knows the handling and storage requirements of raw materials, finished goods, and waste streams.
  • Ensures that equipment and processes are capable of meeting production schedules, customer demands, and Quality and Microbiology targets. Communicates the need for and impact of Quality, Microbiology and EOHS standards while ensuring implementation.
  • Promotes safety awareness and models safe behavior.
  • Applies budgeting processes to develop site capital and expense budgets, and to execute cost-control programs.
  • Improves factor cash flow by effectively managing operating expenses, capital expenditures and inventory.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least 5 years functional manufacturing experience.
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and chemical fields as well as plant equipment.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently at times.
  • Leadership experience in managing hourly employees
  • Ability to motivate others to a high level of performance, along with strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience within or demonstrated understanding of the Quality function within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and operate creatively in ambiguous situations to meet business objectives.
  • A working knowledge of SAP, WMS, and plant floor systems required.
  • Computer experience in Google, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
