Job Profile

 

The Retail Category Development Manager is responsible for championing the Retail Category Development (RCD) approach within the organization, and applying it externally, by working collaboratively with customers She/ he needs to ensure alignment and execution against the category & brand strategies, by coordinating RCD process with customers and providing the tools required to define and deploy the 5Ps and shopper solutions for the category.

The Retail Category Manager plays an integral role in enhancing demand through Colgate's customers, in a cost-effective way, with innovative category solutions. She/ he should collaborate cross-functionally and support retail marketing, customer development and sales field force to identify business opportunities for value creation.

 

Responsibilities/Accountabilities 


● Create mid and long term strategies for the development of CP categories, per retail environment. Develop robust RE Business analysis (e.g.SOM, 5Ps, share of shelf & share of assortment, market insights) and drive retail category focus internally.
● Deliver Retail Category Development Services to our customers (one-way & priority two-way). Provide our customers with relevant trade stories with the goal to increase the value of the category
● Deploy internally and externally regular category updates of the plans based on trends, opportunities and competitive benchmarking
● Work cross-functionally with the Insights group (HUB) to identify the category opportunities. Support the development of local Shopper Insights by category and customer to feed CatMan process.
● Manage the external market data providers alongside customer POSM databases and ensure all business reporting needs are met (market data reports, customers sell-out and SOM reports, inventory reports, BI internal reporting - NS & Margin Reports)
● Manage the 5Ps strategy at category level, with focus on:

  • Planogram recommendation at store format level (e.g. category planograms for Catman projects, weekly planograms for secondary placement, planograms for new products and in-store events, etc.) following comprehensive data analysis including space management.
  • Track the implementation of planograms with CDT.
  • SOS & SOA By-annual projects, with clear and actionable next steps at retailer level
  • Pricing- analyze external and internal data and, based on internal objectives, provide relevant insights.
  • Conduct annual mandated assortment analysis (& regular updates as needed), with clear and actionable next steps by retailer and follow up on progress during GPS Cycle

● People Management Attributes: Manage the Business Insights Analytics responsible and ensure that she/he provides relevant business reports and insights for category development strategies

● Lead the customer engagement process with prioritized customers, (including shop along, collaborative research shopper study, RCD workshop and lead Value creation meetings in order to align with the customer on a strategy to accelerate category growth).
● Manage the relationship with 3rd party data providers (Nielsen, IQVIA, Advantage, Gfk, Focus) and ensure the data received is relevant to the business needs
● Responsible for the implementation of e-RCD projects in collaboration with e-commerce retailers on the Romanian Markets. Will support the Customer Development and Retail Marketing teams to consolidate our presence in this exciting and fast-growing digital marketplace.

Level of Education: University graduate
Years of Experience (range): 3-4 years


Functional Experience and Technical Skills
Basic qualifications include:
● 2+ years of experience in a commercial area (category management /consumer marketing / customer development/ trade marketing)
● Advanced English Level
● Analytical experience to conduct environmental scan, deep category assessment and identify category opportunities.
● Experienced contact with retailers. Proven ability to conduct customers presentations and business reviews
● Nielsen data management & reports (Scantrack, homepanel, trade panel) , Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, power point) and Google Tools (google sheets & google slides) knowledge & planogram tools management like (i.e: Spaceman, Apolo)
● Financial knowledge (P&L) to recommend initiatives that brings financial results and understanding the impact on the business and ROI.
