Tom's of Maine is the pioneer of Natural personal care, paving the way for over 50 years. We are passionate, driven and B-Corp certified. We donate 10% of our profits to nonprofits and our team is encouraged to use 5% of our paid time to volunteer to benefit our communities. We’re on a mission to Do Good. For Real. And we’re looking for a new Tom’s activist to join our passionate team to dream up and create new products.

 

The Associate Brand Manager is responsible for supporting development of new products that drive growth for Tom’s. Reporting into the Sr. Brand Manager of Innovation, this role fully owns innovation development for Tom’s Kid’s Oral Care, Tom’s Mouthwash and Toothbrush. Key areas of responsibility to deliver those outcomes include uncovering and addressing people-centric needs, identifying relevant trends in ingredients, formulations and sustainable packaging, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to develop new items from concept to production. 

 

Main Responsibilities:

Support development of Tom’s innovation pipeline, primarily on Oral Care, from concept to execution:

 

  • Understand the market: track competitive and analogous category innovation trends, natural technologies, natural ingredients and packaging/formats. Evaluate business opportunity, relevance, fit and feasibility for Tom’s.

  • Deeply understand our consumer: develop a deep understanding of our consumer and their evolving needs/perceptions/experience of oral care products to develop people-centric solutions. Knowledge is developed through social listening, use of AI, a variety of research methods, analytical tools and in partnership with Consumer Insights.

  • Dream and create: Develop and test concepts that people will love. Collaborate with cross-functional partners including R&D, legal, regulatory, design, packaging and supply chain to assess feasibility and find ways to bring winning concepts to market. Partner with R&D and Tom’s Tom’s Stewardship council to ensure adherence to guidelines. Partner with the supply chain team to manage timelines and ensure clarity of deliverables with the cross-functional team.

  • Project management: turn winning concepts into products on shelves and in people’s homes by leading 1) claims development with cross functional team (legal, regulatory and knowledge management) 2) packaging design with internal and external design agencies 3) partnering with supply chain to bring products to life from manufacture to shipping to retail 4) lead R&D briefs to initiate technology development  5) liaise with Canadian regulatory counterparts to understand feasibility of launch 6) develop selling materials to help brand and sales team gain listing of new product, including technical demonstrations with R&D.

  • Get Financial: In partnership with supply chain, category management and finance teams, set pricing strategy and develop financial assessments of new products (source of volume, volume projection, costing, pricing, share targets).

  • Support core product optimization as required if it involves new formulation or packaging.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required. MBA preferred. Candidates should have academic training or professional experience in business or marketing.

  • 6+ years professional  marketing experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG or FMCG) with a focus on innovation. or 4+ years with an MBA

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders effectively 

  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written, verbal and applied storytelling communication skills

  • Ability to embrace change; willingness to be flexible

  • Highly collaborative and comfortable with working with cross-functional teams and various levels of management


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $117,000.00 - $133,000.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
