The Food Safety Specialist ensures that Hill’s Pet Nutrition manufacturing facilities meet established Hill’s Pet Nutrition Food Safety Standards. This individual is responsible for implementation, monitoring and continued evolution of Food Safety programs both within Hill’s owned facilities and 3rd party service providers throughout Europe.

 

Focus of the role will include, but is not limited to, the following areas:

 

  • Food Safety Compliance: Understands and influences the implementation of site, company and government standards for Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP & prerequisite programs, etc.
  • GFSI Compliance: Ensures continued adherence to Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements in manufacturing facilities and continues to advance both program robustness and food safety culture within applicable facilities
  • Documentation / Communication: Ensures that the reporting of data and maintenance of records is properly documented by the both internal & contracted sites.  Interprets data, works cross-functionally and effectively communicates results to appropriate individuals, including management
  • Training and standardization:  Delivers Hill’s Food Safety trainings of applicable SOPs and Standards to Hill’s manufacturing site staff and ensures proper understanding and implementation by site personnel
  • Continuous Improvement: Understands and influences Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives in Hill’s facilities with specific responsibility for conducting investigations of all Food Safety, environmental, and microbiological non-conformance issues through utilization of CAPA (Corrective Action Preventive Action) processes
  • Auditing:  Conducts Supplier and Food Safety system audit of sites and leverages facility action plans to enforce timely closure of observations

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Ensure site compliance to Hill’s Food Safety Standards and SOPs. Ensure documentation is completed and maintained
  • Drive continued advancement of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) improvements and implementation. Ensure proper documentation is completed and maintained
  • Drives continuous improvement at manufacturing sites. Utilizes Key Quality Indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities and communicate performance. Provides troubleshooting support in area of Food Safety
  • Conducts annual Supplier and Food Safety audits within area(s) of regional responsibility. Facilitates closure of all audit findings as necessary
  • Conducts Food Safety trainings for site staff and others within the organization
  • Drives Food Safety awareness and engagement in manufacturing sites
  • Works cross functionally with S&T / Network Operations / Quality Tech Transfer / Packaging Engineering on initiatives and projects

 

Education/ Experience Requirements

Basic requirements include:

  • Bachelor degree in Food Science, Engineering, Biology or other related field
  • 2+ years quality and / or food manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of Food Safety, HACCP, prerequisite programs, GMP.

 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master degree Food Science, Engineering, Biology or other related field
  • Certification in HACCP and GFSI audit schemes
  • 4+ years quality and food manufacturing experience
