Job Summary:
The Regulatory Affairs Manager will be responsible for the regulatory intelligence and monitoring of the European regulations impacting ingredients and raw materials, including natural extracts, flavors, and fragrances, and their use into finished products.
This role involves working in close collaboration with the Global Regulatory Affairs Manager responsible for Flavors and Fragrances, the EU RA team, Product Safety, R&D, Manufacturing sites, EHS, Legal, Procurement, etc, for the development and implementing of regulatory strategies and to drive compliance with the regulatory requirements, guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities:
● Lead, coordinate and execute the regulatory intelligence activities of monitoring changing regulations, impacts assessments and drafting strategies for continued product and ingredient compliance.
● Lead, coordinate and either execute directly or contribute to the assessment of draft regulations and regulatory guidelines in order to understand their potential impacts for Colgate’s portfolio.
● Support and contribute to the improvement of effective communication flows for the intelligence gathered, inside and outside the Regulatory department, to facilitate efficient NPD development, product life-cycle compliance and the development of successful regulatory strategies.
● Provide clear and actionable regulatory guidance and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
● Provide clear and actionable regulatory guidance and recommendations to internal stakeholders regarding new regulatory risks, new legislative developments (eg. revision of the EU Cosmetic Regulation, extended allergens, CLP Regulation, Detergents Regulation, REACh and the European Green Deal in general), including training to internal stakeholders.
● Write comprehensible, clear Regulatory Assessments and documents for internal and external stakeholders (eg. Authorities and trade Associations).
● Provide training and support to internal teams on regulatory requirements and best practices
● Collaborate with, and support, the Global Regulatory Affairs Manager responsible for flavors and fragrances, R&D F&F in Piscataway and the Burlington plant by:
- Staying abreast of current and new related guidelines, requirements and regulations specific to flavors and fragrances (e.g. IFRA, FEMA, GRAS, REACh, DfE, EFFA, TSCA, EU Cosmetic Regulation).
- Participating in Trade Associations and monitoring emerging trends that may impact flavors and fragrances.
- Anticipating the impacts on Colgate’s portfolio.
- Working on ingredient defense initiatives.
- Maintaining the content in the Formula Creation System (PDM) up to date.
- Provide training and support to internal teams on regulatory requirements and best practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor or Masters in chemistry, pharmacy or related science with strong chemistry knowledge.
- A minimum of +4 years of experience in regulatory affairs working on ingredients and raw materials (i.e. within the FMCG industry, professional organization or trade association).
- Fluency in English and another European language.
Competencies Required:
- Excellent working knowledge of the European markets and of the European regulators and other key associations and organizations (in the FMCG arena).
- Successful track record demonstrating an ability to analyze new regulations or policies and assess the impact on the FMCG business or New Product Development programs.
- Ability to work in collaborative, matrixed environments, across different businesses and cultures on a worldwide basis.
- Strategic thinking, data and impact analysis, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Regulatory Intelligence Tools, good analytical skills and knowledge of Google tools for Data management and analytics (eg. Google Workplace, Google Data Studio, AODocs, etc).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
- Team player, proactive, quick learner and independent worker able to effectively multi-task in a high pressure environment and follow issues through to conclusion.
